  1. Thank you for the link, on translating the bit about pet-sitting I now have a new title "Guard in residence" and I liked the bit about sprinkling the plants, I must remember that when a client asks me to water their garden [:D] June Price Priceless Pets
  2. I have a feeling its the amount of feral cats in France thats the problem, my 13 year old cat always went out every night in the uk, but not here, he has his cat flap and will happily stay out most sunny days, but he will not stay out at night anymore.
  3. Hi Chrissie, Thank you for asking your "lady", I have got a social security number and yes mine starts with a 2, so at least I know what that means now, I would have thought that since we are in the European Union and having a French number de sécurité social valid until 2024 (will I still be around then?) the rules would be the same for being employed by the Cheque Emploi System.[8-)] Thanks again for asking.
  4.  Thanks Chrissie, yes please, everyone seems to know what to do to employ someone with the cheque emploi system, but would you ask her if I have to register anywhere before I can be employed? or offer my services as a pet sitter?
  5. Please, still need advice about registering, there must be someone out there who uses this system to get paid. Did you have to register first? and if so where? [:(]
  6. Thanks Chrissie, thats what I thought, but I did'nt know if I just gave my French social security number etc to whoever is employing me that would be ok, there is lots of information on employing someone using these cheques but I cant find much about 'being employed' or registering for the system. Thanks
  7. Hi, I would like to do pet sitting, the problem is I would'nt be earning anymore than €2,000 euros a year at most, so can I get paid by the cheque emploi system, and if so do I need to get registered with the system first, or is it only my prospective employers who need to get registered to get the cheque emploi cheques. Thanks in advance for any information.

  16. Yes, we got it a few days ago, it makes a difference when using google or something like Living France, but apart from that we hav'nt noticed that much difference.
  17. Hi, I put this message on the North Western France section but with no results, so here goes. We are a few Brits who help with a small (growing ever larger by the day) cat refuge, as far as we know we are the only place in the area where cats can be taken in, fed, housed and given Vetinary treatment if needed, apart from the SPD which only keep any animal for two weeks before it is destroyed! rehoming kittens is hard enough, but full grown cats is near impossible, even after we have stood the cost of doctoring the adults, we are in a place called Montebourg, along the N13 south of Cherbourg, we are in desparate need of blankets or old woollys, anything that is soft and warm, a few tins of cat food would come in handy too, also any cat lovers who could spare a couple of hours hand-on-help would be very welcome.
  18. Hi Christine, thank you very much for your nice comments, unfortunatly not having much response from this forum. SO, PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE,  if anyone out there who lives not too far away, and has just has a few woollies or cat food to donate, please contact me so we can arrange to collect them.

  21. I keep a plastic container in the freezer in which I put scraps of cheese, bacon rinds, fat, basically anything the birds will enjoy, when its full, which dosn't take long, I put it out for the birds as an extra treet, defrosted of course.
  22. We came over with a Sony Freeview intergrated TV, and now with an ordinary ariel we can pick up all 18 French TNT Channels, we do have a sattelite system for our UK Stations, but we got the ariel to try to pick up Jersey TV but had no luck but were delighted to find TNT, we watched Beethoven (the dog)   in French, and with French subtitles this afternoon, it helps with learning the language.
  23. Hi, we use Phonexpat and we are very pleased with them, in fact we've just had our bill for the last 2 month's worth of calls to the UK, and it came to the pricely sum of €16.37
  24. Water cress is called cresson, but I'm not sure if they sell it over here, you can however grow your own in a damp shady place, it must be kept well watered though, I like water cress soup but I hav'nt gone to the trouble of growing it yet
  25. Just seen our first European fire salamander, we wondered what it was at first because it had got such lovely bright yellow and black marking's, it looked too exotic to be found on a cold and wet night in Normandy
