  1. That's a good one.  I can even whittle it down to Arnac Pompadour.  Forecasting isolated thunderstorms this pm although the sun is shining at the moment.  Well best unplug the PC and clean my kitchen cupboards instead.  Deep joy !!!!  [:'(]
  2. We had a surge protector, but it got struck by lightning. Thanks for all the suggestions.  I like the lachaine one.  Very good.
  3. Which website do you all use for the weather near you.  I use weather.co.uk which does overseas weather and have it set for Uzerche which is our local weather station, but I'd like to try and find one as accurate as possible.  At the moment, our one is telling me it's foggy outside, but that is far from accurate as I can see the hills on the horizon and it's blue sky apart from a few fluffy clouds. Also I hear you can get one on your desktop that comes up every time you log in.  I do have one on my Firefox Toolbar, but that one says it's raining at the moment. Would love to know what everyone else uses. Jan
  4. Can anyone give a good home to a breeding pair of pot belly pigs (miniature variety). If you can, could you PM me and I'll pass on the details to the owners. Many thanks Jan
  5. One of my feral cats does the same and pulls the hair off her back in chunks.  Fortunately, I am able to handle her, although she does get a bit "scratchy" when I do, but the scruff of the neck hold, is a good one.   She didn't seem to have any kind of infestation, but her skin was a bit raw looking, so I bathed it in Bettadine (which you can buy from the Pharmacie or Vet).  She wasn't keen, but it has stopped her from pulling her fur out and her skin has improved. This little one is the most timid of the litter and I think it may be a nervous thing with her.  The two babies of my ferals like to be indoors during the winter evenings and don't mind at all being locked in overnight.  Their mum however, loves to come and sit by the fire, but will not stay in overnight (which is a good thing as she does tend to spray).  However, that problem seems to have sorted itself out, since a friend loaned me a spray called "Feliway".  Clean the area the cat has sprayed on, then a quick squirt of the Feliway and the cat won't go near it. 6. I have to fill out a form to send off with a sample, and I understand the usual, Nom, Prenom, etc, but then it says Nom de Jeune Fille.  Translated it means name of young girl, but I'm wondering if I should be putting my maiden name in. Can any form filling experts help me on this one please? Jan
  7. Thank you baypond.  That is what I thought might be happening, either that or feeding off tiny bugs on the window.
  8. .... and I thought my parking was bad - lol
  9. Can anyone please tell me why a blackbird would knock on a window pane? Jan
  10. Thanks Craig. Very similar.  I actually found a very similar picture to the bird I saw on Flikr - turns out to be a Common Buzzard. Jan
  11. Part way through demolishing an old stone house (with permission).  We have a large quantity of stone we have no need of.  So if you are building a wall, creating a rockery or repairing your own home, come and collect as it is FREE.  In Department 19 Correze, nr Pompadour. You will need a couple of strong blokes and a sturdy trailer. Jan
  12. Just got back from a friends house.  While we were there, a very large bird of prey visited their garden and we managed to get a fairly good view of it, but none of us know what it is.  Unfortunately I didn't have my camera. I was a fairly large bird of prey with a white chest and speckled "collar" coming down over it's breast bone.  It had a reasonably large wingspan of possibly 3ft or more when in flight.    I've had a looked in my Bird Book and the closest I can find is a Bonelli's Eagle, but according to the habitat and migration map, they don't appear in France. I know it's a very vague description, but are there any bird fans out there who might be able to tell me what it is. Jan
  13. Many thanks for your help.  The lady in question is coming to France to speak with the mans landlady to try and find out more. Jan
  14. Minor adjustment to the dish and everything is fine. Many thanks for all your advice. Jan
  15. It's not actually my TV that is not working properly.  It's a friend, so I will try and find out exactly whether it is Freeview, Free to View or whatever, then maybe the problem can be sorted. I'll be back. Jan
  16. Many thanks for all your helpful replies.  I will get onto the local Mairie when I've received the relevant info from my godmum. Jan
  17. I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes. My godmum in England had a friend who was to marry a man many years ago, but the marriage never took place, although the couple stayed friends.  The chap moved to France and stayed in contact with the lady, but then she suddenly got a letter from an undertaker saying that he had died.  It all seemed quite sudden and my godmum's friend would like a copy of the death certificate to know how he died.  She was obviously still in love with this guy even though they had just remained friends and needs to know "how" as some sort of closure I guess. I am still waiting for more details about the date and time of death and region it took place, but how would I go about obtaining the death certificate for her.  Any ideas? Jan
  18. Not sure this is the case this time.  There is a message on the screen which says "channels 101 to 106 not available".
  19. Thanks Clair - at least it was just human error and nothing more serious.  DCM still haven't sorted out their problem.
  20. I also had this problem and am using Mozilla Firefox, in the end my PC completely died with hard drive failure and had to be returned to the UK for repair (it was only 3 months old, so still under guarantee. Mozilla upgraded to try and resolve this problem last year, and so far, so good.  However, a good Anti-Virus and Firewall are essential.  I have been using AVG for quite a while now and am very pleased with it.  AVG do a free version, but I decided to pay for a full license (which although didn't come cheap), I would rather have spent that money for peace of mind than risk another massive failure on my PC.  I know that there are many new virus' appearing every day and nothing is safe, but if you pay for the full version, you have more available to fix the nasties like Trojans.
  21. Don't know if the problem has been resolved, but I use Mozilla Firefox which uses a Google browser and there is no problem with that. I think there is something going on though with a breakdown in many websites.  The other day I got a really offensive e-mail from the Digital Camera Magazine Forum website, so I tried to get onto the DCM website to report it, only to be told that the site was being blocked by my server.  I did manage to contact DCM via their photo competition page, which is a separate website and reported the abuse, and it seems that they had been victim to a major security breach of their system. Maybe Google suffered the same fate.
  22. Similar here.  My friends in Crete can't e-mail me from their Yahoo address to my .fr address, but can to my Yahoo address.
