1. Angela, The 'password protected sharing' settings on your PC (Windows Vista or 7, I presume) have nothing to do with the ability to connect to the internet via the livebox. These settings are only relevant to setting up a local network - via your livebox or not - which you don't want to do. Managing networks so that your PC and any other computer can network together or not depends on the settings on each computer. To connect to the Internet, the only thing you need to enter is the 'Clé de securité' which is found on the Livebox label. It sounds to me like there is a setting in the livebox which is preventing wifi connection. It would be helpful if you could say which model livebox you have. http://assistance.orange.fr/livebox-tous-les-modeles-524.php Let us know when you do have a Mac to connect and we can try to sort it for you. Danny
2. The 'associate' button is not the same as the previous models. It does not function as a device for switching on the association mode at all. The large button in the middle of the front panel serves to turn off and on the wifi completely (hold in for 5 secs) and also for 'wifi facile' - no need to type in the security key with certain compliant peripherals. (Hold in for one second) but if you have no security active then you have no need to enter any security key. You should just click connect. Can you go in to the wifi configuration pages. Click here http://192.168.1.1/ to open, enter your user name and password - 'admin' and 'admin' - unless you have changed them. (It is is good idea to change this password too anyway) Press enter. Click on the 'Configuration' tab. Click on 'livebox' on the left then 'Paramétres wifi' Please list exactly what you have on each line. Activer le WiFi : Nom du réseau (SSID) : Diffuser le SSID : Mode : Numéro de canal : Clef de sécurité : Mode de sécurité : Activer le Wifi Easy pairing : Activer le WPS pairing : Danny
3. If you want ADSL at all then you must have a phone line installed. Contact FT and ask for a new line. The standard cost is 55 euros for the installation/new contract assuming the house is close to an existing line/network. Once the line is functioning you can choose ADSL from any supplier you want. The possibility of ADSL dégroupé from any supplier (or even availability of ADSL at all) will depend on the actual line/area. Danny
4. I assume that the settings on the old livebox were slightly different. You should only have to enter the security key - without spaces - found on the livebox label (Clé de Securité) into the kindle when you press connect. If that does not work then you could try changing the security settings in the livebox. let us know Danny
5.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-13313201 Now are you convinced Q ?
"according to a statement attributed to the group and posted on jihadist internet forums." No detail, no info about real people involved, no way of verifying anything, nothing at all to even indicate who it was written by. If you check out the IP address of the forum poster it seems to originate from somewhere in the vicinity of Langley, Virginia [:D] It must be true, you are reading this on a forum[;-)] Danny
6. Only problem is..... it is not free for those using the wifi so not really useful for gite owners etc. Danny
7. You just sign up for a professional account instead. http://abonnez-vous.orange.fr/pro/forfaits/hdTelPro.aspx?idnode=299 http://abonnez-vous.orange.fr/pro/forfaits/hautDebitPro.aspx?idnode=305 it is more expensive than the products aimed at the home market. Danny
8. There is for the livebox pro but not for the domestic version. Orange business customers with a livebox pro can create a wifi hotspot. http://www.orange-wifi.com/operations/comment.htm Danny
9. here we are http://www.orange-wifi.com/fr/recherche_liste_hotspots_avancee.html Danny
10.
I think you'll find that the phone rental is €32 every two months. Orange do a Formule Net Plus where you don't pay a line rental and use the internet for phone calls (no FT phone). Good if you trust your Orange connection but we still have the landline because the aged phone lines give an unpredictable internet connection (much better with the latest Livebox)
The Orange offers are now called Livebox Star (without FT line rental) and Livebox Zen (keeping the FT line rental)..... Danny
11. If you want to keep your FT line rental at 32 euros for every two months, then the cheapest ADSL from Orange is Découverte Internet at 21 euros per month. http://abonnez-vous.orange.fr/residentiel/forfaits/decouverte.aspx?idnode=110414005 You do not need to use a livebox - rented at 3 euros p/m or otherwise - you can use any compatible ADSL modem/router. There is no guarantee that it is available on your phone line though. Danny
12. Entering your postcode on this page brings up 7 certified Orange installers nearby http://assistance.orange.fr/liste-des-installateurs-antennistes-pour-la-tv-d-orange-associant-adsl-et-satellite-3011.php Danny
13. I think there may be an option in the set up where you can choose Hotbird/astra monoblock but you are right, there is very little that most English speakers would find interesting in the way of FTA channels. Danny
14. Just a couple of things to add. For Orange TV by sat you only need a simple dish with one simple LNB (tête universelle). Something like this http://www.amazon.fr/Media-Price-parabole-satellite-universel/dp/B0019E7SDS will suffice. This is just a dish and LNB. No installation as An0 says. You will also need a length of cable, cable fixings and a means of fixing the dish to the wall/roof/chimney. It will need correct orientation to one of 3 satellites that Orange use. Astra1 at 19.0 E or Hotbird at 13.0E or Atlantic Bird 3 at 5.0 W. It is not necessary to use a monoblock - bi tête. This monoblock is for reception from two satellites - like both 13.0 and 19.0 E for example. You can use the monoblock too if you want certain extra French FTA french channels but it is not necessary for all teh TNT channels and other FTA channels. Orange do not offer the livebox for sale but it is available in supermarkets, electrical shops etc and online from certain retailers. Orange do have an offer of 100 euros reimbursement of the cost of a sat dish and internet installation by a professional at the moment for anyone taking out a subscription to an offer of internet and TV. You need to ask the local dish fitter for details if they are participating in this offer. Alternatively, they offer a reimbursement of 50 euros from the cost of buying a dish or installation from any old joe bloggs professional. Current promotional offers - subject to conditions of course, including rental of livebox.... http://abonnez-vous.orange.fr/residentiel/promotions/toutes-offres-de-remboursement.aspx?idnode=100819135 Danny
15. 1 - dish costs from about 30 euros. Installation cost will be determined by the complications of the installation - roof height or wall mounting etc. You need to ask locally, really. Orange Sat TV is available from 3 satellites - Astra1, AB3 and Hotbird. 2 - With Orange, tech support is the same if you are adsl nu or not. ADSL Nu is not the same as full degroupage. With SFR, FT/Orange still maintain the line. So there is a possible added level of communication. 3- If you want Orange VOIP calls and TV, you must use a livebox. If you want, you can buy one outright for 59 euros if you don't want to rent. 4 - Danny
16.
if they do "unlimited" calls
yes
at a low cost
that depends on how much you call Danny
No minimum period. You can cancel at any time with a notice of 7 days. Danny PS the standard charge for the taking over or opening up a new line is 55 euros. Certain conditions apply to new line installations.
18.
Any ideas how to get this service as I cannot do it on-line?
It is still available. If it does not show for you even under 'other offres' or by using this page http://abonnez-vous.orange.fr/residentiel/forfaits/decouverte.aspx?idnode=110414005 then you will need to call up to order 3900 in France Or if you want to do it in English, the English speaking helpline from within France is  0969 36 39 00, from outside France call 0033 969 36 39 00 or or go into an Orange shop. Danny
19. Jen, here is the Orange service. http://abonnez-vous.orange.fr/residentiel/forfaits/decouverte.aspx YOu can use your own compatible ADSL modem/router. like this maybe You need to cancel in writing - it will stop 10 days after Orange receive the letter. more info here in this discussion http://www.totalfrance.com/france/forum/viewtopic.php?t=100297 Danny
20. This site generates your cancellation letter automatically and for free. You just need to fill certain boxes and it is done. http://www.degrouptest.com/resiliation.php After doing so you can either just print it off and send it or you can send it automatically for 7,29 euros by 'Lettre Recommandée avec Accusé de Réception' online if going to the post office is not convenient. Danny
21. confusion reigns.... VOIP is not the same as a DECT (cordless) phone or an iPhone which accesses the internet by wifi (wirelessly) Only a phone physically plugged in to the livebox phone socket uses the Orange VOIP service. There is only one VOIP service. This can be a cordless or a wired phone. Not a mobile phone though like your iPhone - even if it does connect to your livebox internet by wifi. Danny
22. Quillan, your comments about repair notwithstanding, note that all previous model rented liveboxes can now be exchanged free of charge for the latest mobel livebox 2 by taking it in to an Orange shop if practical. See link http://assistance.orange.fr/echanger-votre-livebox-812.php For anyone concerned by this, do not forget to take all the cables and filters etc along with the old box. Danny
23.
Thanks Guys, everything is worth a try Did live chat over the internet with Orange, reset the box, changed the filters even tried the spare phone still giving the engaged signal. Looks like its something else in the livebox. Will have to put my flak jacket on and try Orange in Bezier as its quicker than waiting for an engineer and risk the wrath of the pesky little madam who works in Orange and pray its the really helpful guy working tomorrow morning! Seems the username and password for everyones livebox is admin and admin even though I also have about half a dozen username and passwords
To access the livebox configuration pages, the default user and password is 'admin' and 'admin' but you are advised in any case to change the password to avoid anyone else changing settings - especially if you have open wifi connections. Danny
24.
Sorry to drag this back to the top, a similar problem has happened , 192.168.1.1 I have typed this in and it is saying that the internet phone is Désactivé , how do I re set this without wiping the whole box by pushing the nib of a pen in as I had real problems last time I did that as I don't seem to have all the passwords to reactivate it. I've tried rebooting the live box by the button on the box and unplugging it. Grr this is very frustrating!!!!!
go into the configuration pages again - click here http://192.168.1.1/ enter 'admin' and 'admin' as the indentifiant and mot de passe. You have not specified exactly which model of livebox you have but the procedure is similar with all of them except the latest model. On the téléphonie par ADSL part line ( or possibly 'téléphone en haut débit') which says 'desactivé', click on 'modifier' to change this. choose 'activer' and then click on 'sauver' or 'enregistrer' (or click OK in the little window which may come up) to save the changes. If this does not help, you will need to do a factory reset again and for this you will need the two codes which you will find on your original letter from Orange. Identifiant de connexion = fti/******* mot de passe de connexion = 7 letters or numbers Without these you cannot re-establish your internet connection again following a reset. If the reset does not restore your telephone service, you need to contact Orange again. It may be that your livebox is no longer so alive. If you livebox is rented, you can now swap it free of charge for the new livebox 2 model. This may help... You can simply take your old rented livebox in to an Orange shop and they will exchange it. You will of course need your two codes to set up the connection with the new box. http://assistance.orange.fr/echanger-votre-livebox-812.php Danny
