I live in Northern Dordogne, and find the eateries disappointing. The choice is so limited, chevre salad, gesiers salad, duck, duck and more duck. Steak, which is usually like shoe leather, and rarely fish. Mostly served with chips, and no veg. Vegetarians, might just a well stay at home, as omellete and chips is about all they will be offered. I still love it here though )
  2. >I am looking to buy a >french woodburner for my house >in France, does anyone know >of any web-sites that might >help me? We have had two French woodburners now, and have not been impressed. However, on a trip to England last year, we bought A Villager, and it has been fantastic. Almost too hot in the sitting room had to open the window sometimes to cool down. It throws out loads more heat than the French ones, and is more controllable.

It will be years before we can get it. Next, I have been with Wanadoo for a couple of years now, and have always had problems with Outlook Express. Even after installing Wanadoo's latest edition. Every time I log on, it creates another identity for me, and checks for email. Now, I am being told my friends that they keep getting their emails chucked back, as undeliverable. Have you tried getting in touch with Wanadoo???? You have to search their website with a magnifiying glass to find "contact Nous". Then they reply and direct you to their FAQ. Duh!!! If it could be answered there, we wouldn't have emailed you would we? I am desperately looking for another ISP, which is reliable and will provide unlimited usage. Any ideas anyone? Tiscali want 76 euros a month, because I have ISDN, even though I only use one line and connect at 64k.
  4. >I am getting more and more >mail returned to me from >Hotmail addresses with the message >"site destination queue overflow". It >seems to have got worse >since I changed to wanadoo >broadband, but this may be >a coincidence. > >Is this a general thing, or >am I just unlucky? I think it is a problem as Hotmail offer such a small mailbox. If you get sent any decent sized files, photos or heaven forbid, movies, then you have had your chips so to speak. I pay about $20 a year for extra storage. I seem to change my ISP quite a lot and it is useful to have hotmail to fall back on for a constant email.

Yuk!!! I thought chlorine would kill anything! I will keep my eyes peeled > > >Sam
  6. >Did anyone see this programme last >night (France3)? It was about >English, Dutch and Americans settling >in France, one year down >the line. We were part of the zany Englishman's team which was thrashed by the French at boules. We were there last night for moules et frites, and afterwards there was a very hotly contested game of bar skittles. The French and Dutch join in and seem to thoroughly enjoy themselves. We are going to borrow a video of the programme. Bunnie PS Brother in law was French Conker Champion year before last!
  7. Ours might be the reverse problem. We have a pool which at present is open to the road. I am loathe to put up larch lap fence, and have considered bamboo which apparently is fast growing. We need privacy - but fast!!!! Any suggestions peeps?????
  8. >Is it possilbe to use a >medical centre/ Doctors surgery to >obtain a private perscription here >in France, or do i >need to find a private >doctor- any advice what i >should look under in the >yellow pages. >Many Thanks, > >Richard (Aude) Dont know what you mean about a Private Prescription. We just went to our local GP with a copy of our English prescription, he looked the drug up in his book and voila!! we had a French prescription! As we were not registered at the time with CPAM, we had to pay the whole price. Which wasnt a whole lot more than the presciption price in the UK I might add!!!!
  9. Hi What part of northern Dordogne will you be moving to? We live just outside Abjat Sur Bandiat. If you are anywhere near, I will be glad to help with some introductions. Bunnie
  10. No Nick it is right. If you look up Tiscali website, the charge if you use ISDN is 75 euros a month. I think this is ridiculous. It is impossible now to get unlimited use with ISDN. AOL have stopped it, and only offer good schemes for ADSL. Too bad if you cant get it. Even Wanadoo which I use, the max I can get is 100 hours for 24 euros. It seems unfair, because their English counterpart Freeserve (which is now to be known as Wanadoo), still do an unlimited access. Oh for ADSL - but I am too rural to get it for at least a couple more years!!
  11. >just received a a leaflet from >Auchan, apparently they sell a >mesh fence Afnor approved, it >costs 119 for 4 meters, >79 for 3 meters, 59 >for 2 meters. >has anyone seen it? > >massimo http://www.boutique.afnor.fr/Boutique.asp?url=EDT%5Fn%5Fhome%2Easp&lang=English&btq=EDT website of AFNOR. It appears a book will be published on Swimming Pool safety on 1.6.04. So surely, it has to be better to wait before purchasing any fencing? Can AFNOR really have approved any fencing already? I really dont know. I am loathe to use the horrible green fencing if for instance a wooden fence would do. We are not giting this year, so I suppose it isnt that important to us.
