  1. Not sure if I'm allowed to do this (sorry if I'm not!) Just moved to Northern Dordogne, and looking for a little french run-around!! No funny comments please. Ideally a peugeot, up to 4000 Euros. Looked locally, but had no joy. If anyone knows of one for sale near us, any info greatly received! Cheers Liz
  2. We are here.............. after what seems like months of planning, thinking, worrying etc, we have finally arrived in the Dordogne! Thank you so very much to everyone who has given us advice along the way. I know it is early days yet, but I think we are all going to be very happy here. Thanks again, Liz, Iain, Pippa and Harry Abbott
  3. REAL LONG SHOT THIS ONE!!! Husband left with van full of furniture today - only half our furniture because it wouldn't all fit!!! Aaargh!! He now has to do swift return at the weekend to transport the rest, before travelling back to Milton Keynes on Thursday 28th, to collect me and children before we fly out permanently on 30th!!! Would anyone happen to have an empty van travelling from Milton Keynes to near Sorges sometime this week or next??? - obviously we would pay!! Of course, husband says "no problem, I can do it!!! Long shot, but can anyone help??? Liz

  7. Hi Penny, Sorry to hear you have hurt your back! Hope you are feeling better soon! Iain left yesterday with the van of furniture (only half our furniture I hasten to add - couln't fit it all in!!!) He will have to do a swift return at the week end for the rest! Me and children arrive next Friday. Can't wait!! Anyway, take care, look after your back, and perhaps see you soon. Liz
  8. Hi, When we arrive in July we will be needing to buy some beds (amongst other things!!) Will be living in Lempzours, 10 mins 'ish' from Brantome. Do any local retailers have websites I can browse before we move? We will be specifically looking for a single bed, with another bed underneath which you can pull out (if you understand what I mean??) Thanks, Liz
  9. Hi, Has anyone any recommendations/info on travelling back to the UK around Christmas. We are moving to northern Dordogne in July and are keen to come back for Christmas (probably for family in UK's sake rather than our own though!!). Had a quick look on Ryan air (Limoges to Stanstead and was quite shocked at high prices - expected though I suppose at Xmas time). Which is cheapest way to travel? Which routes are still running at that time of year etc........... Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Liz
  10. I have no experience of having a baby in france. Both my 2 (now 5 and 3) were born in England. We will be moving to France in July. I had very good experiences with both my children in the UK. Both me and my husband went to the N.C.T. (National Childbirth Trust) meetings before we had our first. These were excellent. Gave us lots of neutral information, (not just what hospitals want you to do to make life easier for them!!) This made us both feel very in control of things??? (as best you can be). This, and the support of the friends I made during those classes, and other friends and family was invaluable in the first few months after having our first baby. I would have no qualms about having a baby in France now, but I think I would have felt very isolated and vulnerable in a foreign country having my first child. Sorry if I've put a downer on things. This is only from my point of view and everyone is very different!!! Good luck. Liz
  11. Hi, We are moving from Milton Keynes to Dordogne at end of July. Had a quote from company here for 4,800. How does that compare with yours. Thought it was rather expensive, but have no idea. Many thanks, Liz P.S. Where are you going to be living??
  12. Hi, We are in the UK at the moment, but are just buying a house near Brantome, in a hamlet called Lempzours. Haven't got my map handy but I think its about 40 mins from you. We will be moving permanently in July - providing we can sell our house!!! We have 2 children, and would love to keep in contact with you, and perhaps meet up once we are both over in France. It's really exciting isn't it (but a bit daunting too!). The area looks lovely. Good luck, speak with you soon. Liz, Iain, Pippa (5) and Harry (3)
  13. Ash Forgive me but surely in the "good old days??" of "me - parent, you - child" type of attitude, smacking/using a cane etc was very common.
  14. Hi, We are moving to north Dordogne in July (Me, Hubby and 2 children 3 and 5). I am vegetarian, and in the UK I live on Quorn. Can you get it in France? Didn't see it on our recent trip. Being a bit of a "potato, veg and quorn type grill" kind of cook, I am starting to panic that I'm am going to have to greatly improve my culinary skills else I will starve!! Any info or help greatly appreciated!! Liz
