1. Good Luck. I’m sure that you’ve realised already that, if nothing else, ALBF is predictable. PS I know a house where the fosse is in the garden the other side of the road.
2. Rule number 1, ignore ALBF until you have read as many of his previous posts as you can. Once you have realised that he is a one trick pony you will learn to take his attitude and advice with a huge bucketful of salt. It’s impossible for anyone who has not seen the house in context to say that the house is overpriced. You will know how it compares to others in the area and I would guess that from what you’ve said you’ve found it to be good for the money. With all the recent work carried out on it, if it’s habitable apart from the fosse it sounds worth looking at to me. The trouble with rural France is there are a lot of vacant properties and turning your back on one with a problem is often good advice. There are exceptions though wher3ca bit of effort is well worth while. Almost any rural property will have a fosse, they are the norm. An area that ALBF knows nothing about. In my commune a Mancunian bought a holiday home about five years ago. We are now good friends. It had no fosse and he had a micro-station installed. Everyone including SPANC knew it was going to be a holiday home but the fosse was approved. I believe the potential problem is that on his installation there are two electric pumps which normally need to be switched on. The big shock to me was how big the micro-station is, it’s a much bigger than my 5000l fosse septique and still has an equally large run off area. I believe that the terminology is more to do with the way the system works than the physical size. If you really want the house tell them that you will pay the original asking price if they arrange and pay to have the fosse installed. They are the locals, they will find it easier to arrange than you. SPANC will assure that it is a good installation and complies. If you really don’t want to walk away there are options.
3. As pointed out, you are not resident in France, you have had no income in France in 2018, you have no reason to complete a tax return in France.
4. And the pompiers treat everybody equally whether they bought a calendar or not. Does that mean that they are acting like the God because they treat everybody equally or that they are acting like the God whomfavours one groupmsbove all others?
5. Have you been spending time in France because you want to establish residency before Brexit? If so what other steps have you taken, are you registered with the French health system? Have you applied for or even got a CdS? If you are saying that you moved to a France in 2017 you should have completed a tax return here in April/May 2018, if you moved in 2018 your first return will be made in 2019. The process will be complicated by the fact that your wife spends her time in Britain as taxation in a France is based on the worldwide family income. In the first instance you will only have to concentrate on the income from the UK as any income from your gites will not come until the 2019 tax year. It’s worth pointing out that your income will also include interest on U.K. savings and you will be required to declare all your worldwide bank accounts on a separate form as part of your tax return. If those accounts are shared accounts with a non Ftench resident that could get complicated.
6. I’m commenting on the posts that he is making now.
7. Well all I can say is thank God he is not still a moderator.
8. Why pay more for oak when you can have pine? How many reasons do you want? Actually my first floor is chestnut, the norm around here, not oak but a lot, lot better than a tinted softwood.
9. I’m well aware of what fools are. Luckily most are easy to spot. I thought that JC said something else.
10.
Yeah you're right. You ARE tiresome.
And I, thankfully, are better balanced than you. It’s very interesting to read how when the pedants are wrong they suddenly don’t care. Strange that.
11.
Yes, GG, I am always using the "Active" option as my access to the forum. I believe the banana is suffering the same thing; he wonders if it is due to some iPad update. If I could work out how to add a picture, I would post a sample of the lengthy screen I have to scroll through.
I get to the list of active topics then click on the last page.
12.
Nice to know PC's and MAC's are much the same then. It would seem that these emails come as a result of the recent hacking of some 50M Facebook accounts. Thankfully whilst I have an account I never use it other than to read family posts and I never post on it.
How does not posting change your ability to have had your FB account hacked. Having the account is enough.
13.
Still nothing to watch whether it comes through an aerial or from a sat dish. My cat sleeping on top of the decoder is more interesting to watch than watching the telly itself. LOL
I must get a cat then.
14. Well why muddy the waters then? The word sat is the other clue. If you are watching British TV in South West France via a decoder it will be a Freesat box connected to a satellite dish. Your neighbour in the UK might well watching the same programme through his Freeview box attached to a conventional TV aerial.
15.

Still waiting for ‘Zulu’, but they’ll either not bother, or put it on at 02.00 !
Gardian, you are putting ideas in their heads; if you are not careful, they will show The Sound of Music.....you have been warned...!! OTOH, I don't mind watching Dinner for One again[:D]
The Sound of Music was on France 3 over Christmas.
16. That explains the SFR connection. You are quite unusual in that you pay for a fixed line and phone calls, most people prefer to not have to pay for the fixed line and make their calls via VOIP which are free to most non mobile phones worldwide. I haven’t paid anything above my monthly Orange premium for years. If you go to the Orange shop ask for more details, apart from anything else Orange are ceasing to offer the fixed line option in the near future.
17. Do you have SFR for your Internet connection but pay for fixed line phone calls through an Orange line rather than using the SFR VOIP? I can’t think of any other reason that you would have for being billed by both companies. If so it sounds as though you have a fault with your Orange analogue line. Re-reading your post it sounds as though you have an internet connection via an Orange Livebox so why are SFR involved at all? It seems even stranger that you are paying SFR by cheque on top of your Orange direct debits. Who did you set up you phone through?
18.
Do you need to get a notaire to fill in the legal bit at the bottom or can anyone you know complete it ? Just don’t want to send ot off and face more delays for incorrect completion.
The section at the end is only signed by somebody who is applying on behalf of a minor.
19. Claire37, Are you applying on behalf of someone else?
20. ALBF never does accurate posts I’m afraid, I’ve never understood why.
21.
"....It simply came to me as an apt description for the image in my mind of her leaning forward, eyes narrowed and mouth twisted, shouting at the top of her voice...." "....an unpleasant woman, especially an older one, who is often angry and often tells other people what to do..." Seems to fit for me. Goodness - and I've been accused of having a chip on my shoulder. As said previously,my OH has had similar "boardroom issues", though people would not have dared argue with her. IMHO disability issues are falling behind issues that have definitely improved from those of our generation.
Of course fits it’s the correct word to use. Our friend Betty has a huge chip on her shoulder.
22. You seem to have a problem understanding how rhyming slang works.
23.
Corbyn lied, did not have the guts to apologize, point final, regardless of your views on May.
Arrogant or what?
24.
Oh goody. Looks like the gloves are off and any pretence we've moved on in the 21st century and sexist remarks are a thing of the past has now been dispensed with.
Why are the mis-heard words, stupid woman, considered to be anything other than an observation? Stupid people seems to be acceptable and I’m sure that stupid man would be too, what makes the option with woman in it sexist?
