Vaseline
Whilst on the subject of Boots, don't they now send to the EU?
Yes they do but nothing that even resembles a medicine. http://www.international.boots.com/
3.
If you are opening any mobile phone and inserting a SIM you should always power it off. Many phones cannot have the SIM installed if the battery is present anyway. Therefor by default the phone is powered off and on anyway.
My iPhone sim slot is on the outside of the phone and I would not wish to remove the battery! You had better write to Apple and tell them, perhaps they didn't realise.

Vaseline

The last lot we got was in the chemist and it is called (wait for it..........) Vaseline, and was used by the nurse on the dressing for a wound. The actual tube has Vaseline Pure Monot on it. Something we would like to buy here in France is Boots or Andrews Health Salts - anyone know of a similar product? Nice refreshing drink to settle the tum the morning after!
5. Lovely place Sete, had some good times there. I think maybe I will go in a faster car next time!
6. Blimey, you get your TF bill early, hope ours has not gone up that much!
7. A replacement engine mount for my ancient Vdub, special offer price France 144€, UK (almost anywhere) £15. Even the more expensive eBay places that include postage to France £30. Rear exhaust box and pipe, garage price france (not fitted) 230€, UK/Germany £27 + £12 p&p.
8. Seems to be a better timetable this year. I've just booked our Xmas jaunt, Roscoff/Plymouth. I think I would prefer night crossings both ways but our journey other end is not too far so not so much a problem for us.
9.
We don't live in a zone where parafoudres are obligatoir, so I haven't rushed to fit one given the price, but I'm wondering if one upstream of the 1st tableau would cure (or at least reduce) the incidence of tripping? Oddly in the last storm, while all the boxes stayed on (the EDF one never trips) paul
I'd never heard of a "parafoudre" before you posted and had to look it up. I use same as Gardian for my PC etc and not had a problem with lightning strikes (although we have lost a couple of trees). Our EDF trip pops off every time there is a hint of a surge, maybe yours is faulty and should be replaced? I presume you are talking about these? http://www.legrand.fr/professionnels/les-parafoudres_442.html How much do they cost?
10. I too use glycophosphate but at triple strength on bindweed, nettle and bramble. Seems to have an effect but I don't think you can ever beat it. It says on the bottle of glycophosphate that it is inert once it touches the soil, is that not true? I would be most concerned if that were not the case.
11. Thanks Gardian. I have sorted the exemption. I expected it to be difficult but in fact the tax offices, both here and in the UK, were very helpful.
12. Very informative, thank you both, replied to the pm Gardian. Where/when do you find out the TdH threshold? I presume the tax liability depends on your age as well. From that "other" forum the threshold for a couple 65 and over is: 2 persons 20,789€ (2013), have I read that right?
13. Hi, I wonder if anyone can tell me when I can expect to receive my Avis D'Impot. I feel it was around this time last year but can't be sure. The reason for asking is that it is the first year we have had UK old age pension to declare. For the last couple of years we have not had to pay taxe d'habitation as our income was below the threshold. I'm wondering if the extra pension will bring us above the threshold as we receive a UK teachers pension which is taxed in the UK and of course declared here. Does the teachers pension count towards the total global income as it is added then refunded by the impots?
