1. I hope he wiped the dirty tyre marks off the benches he jumped on.
2. Considering an ipad 4 doesn't exist, you're probably right. B&N Nook glow looks good: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/nook-simple-touch-with-glowlight-barnes-noble/1108046469
3. Have a look here: http://www.dafont.com/ Most are free to download and use. I use it all the time. I'd avoid using a script font, as you want it to be easily and quickly read. Personally, I'd go for an oldstyle font (like Times, but not times) as it's classic and easy on the eye (especially in print). Something like Optimus. Avoid ones which are names of cities like Helvetica or georgia, they are designed for screen use rather than print.
4. Would have thought that would have been part of the notaires job to do that, but thanks for the tip, will follow that up.
5.
I know they  lived in Australia but they were actually born in the Isle of Man and lived in Manchester before emigrating....... I believe Robin Gibb lived just outside Thame
Yeah, but it was in Australia they got their break. That's the only reason I mentioned it. I actually thought they were American for years because of Saturday Night Fever and all that. Then I found out the truth in my teens :)
6. I think their music far surpasses the Beatle's. Was shocked when I saw he'd died, although it had been coming. Also Australia's greatest contribution to the music world.
7. Thanks. There's no tax d'hab because I've zero income for the past few years.
8. My house sale has finally gone unconditional (at last) and have a few questions. Do I need to inform my insurance company yet, or let them know to cancel the insurance at settlement? I've always been confused on this one, but I pay the tax foncier on monthly direct debit. Do I cancel this at settlement too, or is it still my responsibility until the end of the year? And finally, if the sale goes tits up for whatever reason, do I get to keep the deposit, or at least some of it? Am happy it's finally got a buyer, I have lost heaps on it, but it's the future that counts. The exchange rate is concerning me greatly though. Hope I can get my money out before its too late.
9. I'll be in on that. Can it be done online? Maybe like Words with Friends? Can't see it being much of a money maker though. Not unless they team up with Angry Birds.
10. Will I have time to get my money out of France before the euro implodes? House settles in July.
11.
Hi again Russethouse No, I looked at Smashwords but not Lulu. However, I've just had a look at Lulu so I will have a go at putting it on there too. I wasn't very confident about the technology when I first started but it's starting to seem less scary now! When I clicked 'publish now' it was very nerve-racking! Have you any experience of Lulu or Smashwords? Thanks
I published a book for a friend via Lulu 3 years ago. Formatted it in Word, did the cover in Corel Draw and uploaded it and published it. Very easy. Then last year, I produced a kid's book using InDesign, and converted it to a lulu friendly pdf before uploading and publishing that. Lulu is very easy to use, and reasonably cheap as well.
12. I read this on the Beeb site tonight: "A day before the election, media in France are obliged to refrain from any reporting which might prejudice the ballot until the close of polls on Sunday evening." Can you imagine that being law in the US or UK? I think the media would self destruct!
13. Yes, I will do that too. Well, they have signed it, and the agent will email it to me tomorrow for me to sign. They'll also mail it out to me, for me to sign and when I get the original copy from my ex saying she's happy for me to sign, then we're all set. Still don't know details of how they will be paying for it, but at least the reports have come back ok, which was one concern. I feel the noose loosening all the time. I'm looking forward to being able to think of my time in France with fond memories, rather than the resentment that has dominated these past 12 months.
14. My ex signed a form basically allowing me to sign for the compromis when I get it, so it will save an extra two weeks. I've no idea whether they need a loan or not, I know very little about them. Good point about the power of attorney thing, I'll inform the agent and notaire once I have the compromis. Thanks for the congrats too :)
15. Thanks Sue, that's a big help. Sprogster, I am already feeling the noose loosen around my neck. It has been very stressful. If renting laws were more rational, I would probably have rented it out and waited to sell at a later date, but with it off my back at least allows me as you rightly say, to move forward. By the way, did I mention we're getting married on 25th August? Nice simple wedding with close friends and family in the back yard.
16. This is going to be a long 7 day cooling off period. I'm pretty confident it will all be fine, after all, it's been 3 weeks already and they haven't changed their mind yet and that's before the compromis is signed. So once it's signed, and the 7 day cooling off has been completed, then it takes 3 months to sell, or is that taking this part into the equation? I need the money by September.
17. The rest of the reports were completed Monday, which amazed me for them to get someone out with a days notice. Thankfully, they used all the reports they could from when I purchased the properties in 2005, so the rest didn't cost me too much. Anyway, the purchasers are apparently signing the compromis this afternoon, so I guess once I receive that, then it's an unconditional contract? I'll have to organize power of attorney as well for the act de vente, I'd forgotten about that, I don't think me or the ex will make the trip to France from our respective countries just to sign it in person (me in the US, her in Australia)!
18. I need to obtain a report on my criminal behavior while I lived in France for immigration purposes to the USA. Does anyone know where to apply for this? It's basically a report that will say "Mr Coeur de Lion II has been a good gaçon and has done nothing at all wrong during his 5 years in France". Obviously, it'll be in French, but that should be the drift of it. I have tried a google search, but my French is getting worse by the day. Many thousand thank yous in advance.
19. If there are faults and they try to bring me down, at least I'll have an idea of how much it would cost. When we rewired the downstairs, it was only a couple of thousand euros, so the upstairs would be a similar amount. I'd probably give them a grand off in that case. But we'll wait and see. I will take Idun's attitude to begin with and take it from there.
20. Yeah, I'm bracing myself for that. But for christsake, they're getting an absolute bargain, and that will be my argument.
21. Finally discovered the hold up. Seems the notaire was slowing things down by not providing the previous sales paperwork and reports for some reason. He's done so now, after I had scanned and emailed everything I had to him yesterday. Still, at least they'll save me some money, as they are using the asbestos and lead reports that had been done 5 years ago, so all I need to fork out for is the new electrical report and sanitation. Bit nervous about the electrics, we only had downstairs re done, the upstairs hasn't been touched in god knows how long. But it always worked fine for us... I don't know why the reports were holding up the Compromis, as when we bought the house it was set up subject to us being happy with the reports. Perhaps that has changed now. So all being well, I should see a Compromis some time next week. Watch this space.
22. Thanks, yes it is a bargain, but oh well. You win some, you lose some, but this is the last time I lose :) Finally got word from the agent, he had contacted the notaire for a copy of the last sale which he apparently needs to do up the Compromis. So I scanned and emailed this to him to save some time.
