  1. we are a family of  7  Mam, Dad 2 kids age 6 and 14 and nana, sister and uncle, 1 car we eat very well and have no mortgage  we can live on 2000 euros a month ( Basic income)but thats without luxury's such as holidays and not counting all the animals, we work hard for our extras in the b and b so I think you could survive on less than that maybe just ever 1500 a month but don't expect lots of fine dining or holidays you just couldn't do it
  2. Steve lock does ours very good and realiable I'll pm you his e mail

  4. I think it looks lovely, although I would charge a bit more for the rooms esp if theres a cooked breakfast as bacon is very expensive and you may have to get it imported, as another Band ber  I think it is altogether really rather nice,  good luck with your new verture Try putting it on laymyhat.com theres a section on website reviews
  5. hot in the summer mild in the winter if you lead a busy life and work its okay in the Limousin but can be very boring and lonely if not ,all depends what you want out of life,I love it here in the summer, but wish I was back in the northeast in the winter , I also miss the sea very much, if I did not have the kids it would be def back home for me, I miss the northeast very much, think seriously about it, you may have caught me on a bad day,but its very differant living here to holidaying here, but you do get used after a while,if you are used to socialising alot going to pubs and lots of shops and various entertainments etc the limousin may not be for you, but if its a quiet life (and I mean quiet) well good luck!

  8. so that means as a british citizen he cannot goon to be a policeman as the british kids don't do the national service.
  9. Yes jane it was a typing slip I meant to say educated here since 7  hes now in 4eme  and doing extremely well but I was under the impression his Bac etc wouldn't count for anything, anyway he says he has no intention of going back to the Uk (but you never know!!!)
  10. What I have read there is that you have to be of french nationality for both the gendarme and the police national, could he get dual citizenship to get in, or does this not count now as we are all europeans?
  11. hi there, just a query is your son british or french as my son would love to be in the french police but was told( I don't know who by )that as he was a brit he would not be allowed to be a policeman and I said as he was educated from the age of  7 its unlikely he would get in the Uk police force so this has really upset him  so can anyone confirm if this is true
  12. I also use 4 eggs when making yorkshire pudds a very hot oven and dont open the door untill you think they are done or they will sink mine are always massive!
  13. I have used my CA mastercard which is a debit card for hire car in france several times  and when back in the Uk I have used my visa electron debit card for hire cars there, no problems what so ever
  14. No not at all if you are inferring its me I wish everyone in this business all the best and have on several occasions given advice to people however you may note he offered up the information on this outgoings and people did not ask it, and us just being curious would love his advice and help on how to do better, but he does not seem to be very forthcoming with the details; if he did not want to go down that line he should have never freely given this info, I for one speak honestly on this forum and would never exsadurate as I know thats theres alot more experienced people out there to knock me down!
  15. it seems strangly funny that Kieth has suddenly gone silent!  I would just like to add my say, I have read and laughed my way through this post, the majority of us who are interested in this are b and b owners, and I for one class myself as having a good buisness, and could never in a million years (even with americans) get 500 euros worth of extras a day, are your rooms 6 bedded suites that are locked so people cannot go out so they stay in drinking champagne and eating luxery snacks allday, as you say you have no outdoor space that speaks for itself, breakfast is out cos it has to be included in the price even at 30 euros ahead for evening meals for 6 (of course wine inc) thats no where near, I'm sorry but in my personal opinion I think you are taking the  p***, I am sorry if I'm wrong, so nows time to let us know how you are so brillant, and what all these legal extras are,
  16. If you booked a room and didn't bother to phone or  e mail and cancell, well then you should be charged the rack rate they would probebly not be able to book the room out and might have turned people away, it happens to us alot, and we dont take credit cards therefore lose the booking, why can people not just ring up and cancell as soon as they know, Ive sat up till 12mn waiting for people to turn up and when I do get in touch with them and theyjust say  we changed our minds!, its really frustrating especally when its a small buisness and its not worth taking deposits etc for 1 night,  I wish I could charge for the amount of no shows we have had,and all the people Ive turned away for the room!
  17. if you are in the limousin, you can get them at the Asian supermarket behind cora /conforama  in  ZI Nort Junction28 in Limoges
  18.  hi there , you say you recieve 7000 euros a month pension ,is that correct, you must have had a good job to recieve approx 4500 pounds a month pension if I had that much money I wouldn't be worrying about  coppers in social charges, most people would class themselves a wealthy having that much to live on here!

  20. I hope you find good homes for the ducks I cannot understand people who say animals are only good for eating , some people like me actually love my ducks and chickens whatever sex they may be and have them as pets whats wrong with that! I would be very careful who you give them to as they may say they are for pets but if you go back a few months later they could be gone! and I speak from expierence
  21. I was told by the vet for  week old kittens to rub a touch of frontline spray into the palms of your hands and then pick the kittens up and rub them all over I have since done this several times to peoples kittens causing no harm to them, by the way its always best to have 2 kittens not one as they settle better and turn out more loving and have each other for support/ comfort
  22. I would say just that , can you imagine the diverse cultures and languages that my children meet on a day to day basis they talk fluently to the English and French speaking kids and communicate as kids do to the other kids from other countries in a much better way than we do, they are around me, looking and  helping me and they know where the money comes from, not unattached from mam and dad, its a good life albeit we will never be rich but lovely the fact our kids were brought up by us in lovely surroundings,  I would say the only draw back is people thinking its a hotel and thinking you are on call 24 hrs a day, and the fact we have had some wierd people but there again, I lock us in at night!!!!
  23. hi there Cerise,  I totally disagree with what you say, I have loads more time! in the Uk both myself and my husband worked full time hubby as a chef and me as a nurse manager, I never saw the kids, mother babysat all the time day and night,  we never had any money to go out, here its definately a family affair, we are well known and are a big family I have my uncle who's got a learning disability to look after , my kids are around me from getting up, they help me clean the rooms(well the 6 year old tries) chris my son is incharge brushing the paths and keeping the pool area clean and also tidying up our end, (we are just in the grenier) Dad does the B and B cleaning and I do the shopping kids in tow, We go out for the day a meal included every Wednesday ( kids off school) and Saturdays  whether theres guests or not, theres always one person in the house to greet guests. I do my jobs either early or previous night so we can get out straight after guests breakfasts about 11am, and I'm always back with fresh food in tow not later than 6pm, everthing runs like clockwork but its very hard work and tiring, hubby does all the evening meals so doesnt need me there all the time but I always clear up and wash up and set the tables, I do not drink so I don't socailise for hours with guests but will sit a little while talking etc, we get loads of one nighters but have organised my day so I can do things around my kids I bet they would rather have that as me being away from them at work!!! I never leave my 6 yr old alone upstairs whenever shes not with me (ie meals) shes with nana in the garden, I have a big steamer iron and my sister does the ironing which she gets paid for,  also add I have rescue dogs(6) and cats (12)and  which I look after,  its hard fitting it in but we do and were not busy in the winter we do get trickles though we have 4 bedrooms, I think its a very good life for afamily you get all afternoon free to spend with the kids and all the days you dont have guests, we are used to hard work and at our ages (late30s and early40s) are too young to put our feet up yet ,infact I would be bored if I didnt work, its just lovely to have the best of both worlds!
  24. hello there,  we run a b and b and have a 13 yr old and a 6 year old and have done sucessfully for 4 years however we do ahave seperate living rooms and sleeping bathrooms etc on the top floor 3 bedrooms and lounge kitchen and bathroom we also do evening meals in this case my daughter goes to nanas gite in the garden till were finished, my daughter loves the guests and visa virsa and my son just says hello and thats, it unless there are kids of the same age so he goes in the pool with them,  I've had no problems with the kids and guests as long as I can lock my upstairs  so I feel safe at night in my bit that I class as home, the bottom 2 floors are work! and everything works just great, a little cramped but were used to it now hope everthing goes well for you
