  1. Please can someone remind me what the size of the panneau is required for displaying permis de construire outside property? Thanks
  2. I know I've seen a website where you can go to verify SIRET numbers. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
  3. Monika, I have exactly the same problem, but with an added dimension which is starting to feel a bit scary. That is, none of the 3 phone numbers are available at the moment for my Maitre D. They have promised me a schedule of dates by email, but this has not materialised. I dod wonder if it might be the same company? Would you care to PM me with their name?   I am starting to have a horrible feeling that I'm not going to see the 40% I paid up front in April again. Can anyone advice me on what recourse I now have?
  4. Can anyone advise me what the status of a signed devis is? I've also paid 40% of total costs of the work. What are the obligations of the builder? Thanks
  5. How do you know where to get wood? My Mairie couldn't help. In the fields round and about there are huge piles of wood. What to you do? Go to the nearest farm and ask if they sell it? Could use some help here!
  6. No. I bought for 'cash' and no extra taxes. And I paid deposit to agent who just gave me a receipt. I Paid at completion by bank transfer to Notaire.
  7. Your timescales are the same as mine were last year. I too only had 1 week's notice from the estate agent of the appointment and this meant a rush to get funds transferred direct to Notaire in time. But on the day it was all fine.
  8. Can anyone point me to a good source for ceramic floor tiles? Online sources would be good if poss. Liz
  9. I'm not an expert, but am awaiting the start of some work to my property in 89 too. We visited last week and found the grass was waist high. I could see how it might have delayed the start of work had we not visited in time. We had a site meeting and I made sure that the grass was well mown before I left. I also told the project manager that they were welcome to cut a swathe through using our tractor if they had any difficulties and gave him the keys since I won't be back for 5 weeks and the work is taking place during this period. So to be fair, it could have caused a delay. We were very careful not to park the car over the long grass because of the potential danger of fire.
  10. I am unfortunately on the receiving end of dogs which are not kept under control. We have an acre surrounded by a mixture of hedging, the banks of a river and trees with gaps in. On both sides are neighbours whose dogs roam. One regularly enters our garden and has left the usual doggy presents for us. It's very annoying that I will have to pay good money to keep these dogs off my land.
  11. I have had my permis de construire agreed. Can anyone point me to builders and plumbers in Yonne, or any useful websites?   Liz
  12. I'm just putting the finishing touches to my demande de permis de construire. I need to indicate electricity and water supplies as well as Fosse septique. Can anyone tell me if there is a convention for marking the fosse septique on plans? Do I just show the main tank bit, or am I supposed to show all the drainage?   Liz
  13. Thanks for helpful answers. No, the Mairie in my case doesn't have them. Val2, you may have misunderstood my question. It certainly wasn't an expectation that anyone would send them to the UK. Just a question. Liz
  14. I need to get my cadastral plans to attach to my application for permis de construire. Does anybody know 1. Do the local offices (mine's Auxerre) have them available immediately, or do you have to warn them? 3. Do they require proof of ownership? 2. Is there a charge? 3. Are they willing / able to fax or post them to the UK? Liz
  15. You are quite right about the 4 day clearing issue in the UK. It's basically a fiddle whereby your money 'disappears' into a black hole (their account) so that they make money on the transaction. It's long been known about and is illegal in some Scandinavian countries where it is seen for the scam it is.   I recently heard the system in the UK defended on the BBC Moneybox programme by a spokesperson for the industry who said that it had never been changed in the UK 'because customers hadn't demanded it'. That week, the Moneybox programme received its biggest ever number of emails from listeners saying 'oh yes we do'.   The system can be changed, but the banks in the UK simply will not invest in it. I also face a scam every month when I send money over to my Spanish account. My money again 'disappears' somewhere between Lonodon and Alicante for four days, and I have to pay a charge for the privilege. Really wierd when I can go to a hole in the wall in Sapin and the money is instantly debited from my account in Manchester. Liz
  16. Thanks for advice so far but  just to get it straight about my original question ... The bills that are going out about this time of year relate to the year Jan 04 - Dec 04. That means that unless I've signed to the contrary (which I didn't), the vendor, who I bought from in July 04, and was in the property on 1st Jan is responsible for the taxe. So when do they have to pay this bill?   Liz
  17. I bought my house in July this year(89). Please can someone advise me how and when I pay the above taxes? I won't be visiting for another 3 weeks. Where should I regsister / pay and how do I get a fiscal number? Thanks for your advice. Liz
  18. Thanks for answering. Very helpful.   Liz
  19. I am back in the UK and working through my Permis de construire application. This is for some simple changes to the house I have bought. There is a question on the form which asks if I have a Certificat D'urbanisme. Please can someone tell me what is a Certificat D'urbanisme and how do I find out if there is one? Thanks Liz
  20. Thank you all for your responses. You have been very helpful. Yes, I look forward to 3rd July when it will be done, and after that, the challenge of makng it mine. Liz
  21. We are about to sign the last stage for the purchase of our house. I have some questions about one or two points: 1. Is it standard practice for the notaire or immobilier to arrange continuation of the water and electricity supplies or do I need to do this myself? 2. Can I expect the fosse septique to have been emptied? 3. Can I expect to receive the keys on day of signing or is it usual for a further period to elapse? Many thanks. Liz Newby
  22. I will be making the usual 10% payment when I sign the P de V this week. Is it 10% of the price including estate agent fees, or 10% of the net vendeur price? Is there anything else I can expect to pay at that stage? Liz
