1. Thanks so much for your help Frenchie.
2. Thats precisely what I want to do but I want it in perfect French, hence I put it in French language section.
3. We are leaving France soon and as two of our neighbours will be on holiday the day we leave we want to leave a card in their letterbox thanking them for their friendship.   Any ideas of some special words we can write on the lovely cards I've managed to buy?
4. Seems to me thats its another case of not much unity being shown in the European Union, just what do these MEP's do apart from earn a fat crust whilst they sit around on their fat ***e.
5. The proof should be a priority surely?  That's the whole idea is'nt it!?     Definitely an essential for a vendor in a property sale, ie so he knows when the buyer has had sight of the two signatures on the CdeV.
6. Thanks for replies.   Is that the norm for within France or taking into account 2 seperate countries?  Seems a long  time!
7. Does anyone know how long it takes to have an avis de reception returned by La Poste normally?  Letter sent to Belguim from France.
8. FROM the beginning of January, owners of homes using septic tank systems will have to supply potential buyers with a certificate showing they conform to the latest standards.   A diagnostic assainissement (treatment of waste water check) is therefore the latest addition to the list of property checks that sellers may have to have done, on top of termite infestation, presence of asbestos, safety of electricity and gas installations etc.  Our tank, filter bed etc is almost 6 years old, will we require an inspection from SPANC too for the necessary certificate.
9. Has anyone any idea when it could be?
10. Please don't answer if you don't wish to nectarine.  You then banked the cheque in France and had no hassle transferring to UK?
11. HERE IS THE LINK to the information I read.  I've also noted it states "including" (not just the 3 as I stated before).
12. Thanks so much for all your replies.   Great news to hear you are nearly there Bubbles!  We'd definitely decided to wait until we had a buyer before arranging the diagnostic checks, I can't understand the part about it lasting only 3 months though because everything I've read the minimum life of the checks can differ but the least is 6 months?  Does anyone know if it works better if you open a euro account, secondary to your main account in the UK.  Would that work better?    Will - I have read that there are lots of companies registered but not regulated by the FSA.  In fact only 3 are it seems which are Caxton, HIFX and World First.   You have no guarantees with the others.    Frightening that the law won't be changed until Nov '11
13. It certainly does make a huge difference Bubbles, I'd read in another thread that you were keeping everything crossed at the moment, good luck to you.   Hopefully it will happen for us soon too.   Its a fact its more of a 'mare to cross back over than it was to come!  We're still hanging on re the diagnostic check too,  the notaire did say she'd require it at the compromis de vente signing but unless we're sure we've got a buyer we're not organising it. Buyers are too far and few between!
14. Just a little bump for this one but adding a different question. Reading other forums I see there have been some nightmares re the house transfer funds.   I know you must make it very clear to the notaire that you require the money on the day of the final Acte signing.  Our notaire has said she can easily transfer the funds using electronic procedure as long as all our IBAN details are quite clear.   It seems others have done this yet they've still had worry and sleepless nights due to the delay of the money hitting their UK account.     So, your opinions please on THE best way for a hassle-free transfer. Is it : 1.  Let the notaire transfer to our UK bank account.  (Worried about no control of exchange rates). 2. Let the notaire transfer to HIFX, FirstRateFX (or the like) and have them transfer to UK account. 3. Let the notaire transfer to CA bank account and then do the exchange ourselves (with the best deal of the day). 4  Another?
15. Parsnips quotes: Hi,    The tontine is easy to set up--you have it inserted in the contract at "compromis de vente" stage, but you should be aware that the survivor will be charged inheritance tax at 60% on their share at succession. Hi,       No! Your wife is exempt from all inheritance tax on your estate including the house. Is'nt this contradictory ?
16. Many thanks from me too Montcigoux for taking the time to reply.
17. I've looked through the Property section but can't find my answer.   If a buyer chooses (and the notaire agrees) to the house being paid for in GBP can anyone tell me how long it takes before funds are transferred to your UK bank account?    Other scenario, if the house is paid for in euro's how long does that take before the funds are transferred to your French bank account, bearing in mind that we then have to transfer this ourselves using a money currency exchange company and want to close off our CA bank account completely before we move area?  Thanks for any help.
18. Surely there is SOMEONE in the Lot region prepared to help with this sad sad situation?
19. Brought this old thread up again.   Reading the link given in 2008, and particularly the gas installation, it states "natural gas", are checks carried out when bottled gaz is used (only used for cooking).?
20. People move on because thats what life does, it moves on.  What fits the criteria required at one stage in life does'nt necessarily fit the criteria of the next stage.   Everyone has to do what they need to do and if thats moving on or back to the UK then good luck to you all.
21. We'd never break the law which is why I'm contacting DVLA PLUS the police tomorrow to get the precise law  regarding our situation.
22. I will have a look at that Iceni and thanks.   I think the road tax plus the change of the headlights cost would be a deciding factor.     As the evening has gone on from me posting my initial question it has riled me a tad that people who don't bother to immatriculate don't have this problem.    I know the police are beginning to catch up with a few with no MOT or road tax (these drivers expect the best of both worlds!), but a pound to a penny there'll be 100's getting away with it!!
23. We will be staying with relatives for a couple of weeks until the house sale is finalised.   It was in that period we were hoping to buy another car.   At that stage the details given for insurance and log book etc will be relating to our new home address where we will be residents and not guests.    Surely not everyone can part with their french plated cars prior to going back?  I can see this works very well for those who have never bothered to immatriculate in the first place!!
