1. Thanks to you all for your various advice/opinions.  It's given a starting point at least and prompted a few questions to ask the professionals.  [:)]
2.
Hi, good luck with the move. Whas the Tarn getting too hot for you?
Can't cope with snow in May!!!![:)] But seriously, we feel that we need to get down off the mountain BEFORE we get too old
3. I apologise if this subject has been answered elsewhere, but I can't seem to find an answer. My wife and I currently live in the Tarn and are considering relocating to a different part of France within the next year or so.  Neither of us can work out how to deal with two Notaires possibly 100 or more miles apart so that we can move smoothly on the day of 'completion'.  We understand that the French system is different having survived the purchase of our current home. Has anyone relocated within France recently who can maybe explain the system to us please?  [8-)] Many thanks in anticipation
4. I get my Broadband from UKTelecom which includes a free VPN if you tick the UKTV box in the application form.  No nasties on your PC, no change of home page just simple step by step instructions how to make a network connection to their VPN.
5. I guess most people will have solved this problem by now, but if anyone is still unclear (like I was this time last week) I can  now get iPlayer on my TV and send it wirelessly to the portable in the bedroom.  A combination of Humax HD box, a VPN and the right cable sorted it all out for me.  Please feel free to PM me if you'd like to know more.  I'm no techy but it works for me.
6. I don't believe this is typical of the Tarn.   I went to our local CPAM on Friday to surrender my Carte Vitale as my E106 expired yesterday.  I was met with a very friendly lady who telephoned Albi, informed me that it should be possible for me to be covered by my wife's E121, took copies of all the paperwork she needed and handed me back my Carte Vitale!!  But I don't suppose it works today.  She assured me that I should receive a new attestation within a week and a new Carte Vitale sometime soon and told me how to activate it when it arrived.  She couldn't have been more helpful .  In the meantime keep all the paper 'feuilles' and hand them in for a refund when my attestation comes through.  It all seemed too easy, but only time will tell.  What I did not get however was hostility like you describe.  I wish you good luck
7. Hi, once again I don't know about pre-existing conditions but the company below will usually give travel insurance to EU residents.  I've used them once and had no problems with my slight problems, they were just excluded from the cover offered. http://www.worldwideinsure.com Good luck, Alan

Rabies Info Please

The man from DEFRA says:-   " The UK does not require annual rabies vaccinations. With regards to the Pet Travel Scheme in the UK cats and dogs must be vaccinated for rabies by the 'valid until' date as stated on the rabies vaccine manufacturer's datasheet, this can be in one, two or even three years. If the rabies booster your dog received is valid for two years as stated by the rabies vaccine manufacturer's datasheet and there are no national laws in the country it is administered which requires pets to be vaccinated annually for rabies then your dog will not require a rabies booster until the two years are up and can enter the UK under the Pet Travel Scheme. Please note if there is a national law which states pets must be vaccinated annually for rabies then you must comply with this in order for your dog to continue to qualify for the Pet Travel Scheme and re-enter the UK without quarantine." Still confused!

Rabies Info Please

Hi,  As I understand it, the dog should be chipped first, then have had a blood test 1 month after the rabies jab, and if that was satisfactory a passport issued but the dog could not enter the UK for 6 months after the date of the jab, and then only after treatment for ticks, fleas and worms 24-48 hours before entry to the UK. It's quite convoluted but works quite smoothly normally after the first 6 months. Hope this helps, Alan
Thanks for your reply.   Yes, we had the blood tests done about 2-3 years ago, and recorded in the Passporty,  and jabs have remained up-to-date since then.  Our only mistake seems to be that we forgot the yearly vaccinations en France, but logic suggests that we should be OK for re-entering the UK, I'm just not sure what the situation is in France.  I sense an early visit to a French vet!! Thanks again   Alan
An anxious visit to the vet has revealed that  the UK Rabies vaccination is valid until its expiry date, and after that it's an annual vaccination.  I hope this helps anyone who's memory is as faulty as ours and thanks to everyone who tried to help.   Alan

12. [8-)] We settled in France last October and hope to journey back to the UK for the first time in a few weeks.  I have checked our dog's UK Passport and all seems to be OK, the rabies jab is valid until Jan 2007.  However the French require a rabies jab every year instead of every 2 years, this means that it's out of date for France but seems to be valid for the UK We're assuming that all will be well when we reach the Tunnel as the Passport appears to be in order, but we are confused as to what the current, interim, situation is, we will obviously have her 'jabbed' every year in future. Does anyone know what the situatiuon is while we are 'betwixt and between' and will we encounter any problems at the Tunnel? Thank You Alan
13. Does anyone know of a reliable Maitre D'Oeuvres in the Mazamet, Pont de L'Arn area?  We want to convert our garage into a bedroom  but don't have the necessary know-how.
14. My wife and I descended to the Centre des Impots in Mazamet (81) on Friday to be told the equivalent of why are you here?  Come back in March and fill these forms out. He seemed to be interested in our income for 1st January to 31st December.  UK Tax years are obviously different, can anyone tell me a) is there any easy way of demonstrating income for a calendar year which is aceptable to the French authorities, and b) what do they they think of P60s being issued in May, not March.   Thank You Alan
15. No we're too far up in the hills for Broadband, dial-up only I'm afraid
