1. Quillan...sorry about this, but I noticed that dnsdynamic.org offer a free service, whilst dyn.com charge an annual fee. I take it that I do not manually have to update the paid service whereas I would have to manage the free service myself and update them with any change of IP. This is all new to me. Thanks in anticipation.
2. Thanks Quillan for your excellent advice. In simple terms, if  I am using an Orange LIVEBOX2, I will have to use a DYNDNS service...is that correct? I have been looking at the dyndns.org site and am presuming the DynDNS Pro package will be just what I need? Thanks Pachapapa for your input, although I have not the foggiest what you are talking about![8-)]
3. Thanks Quillan..if I can just pick your brains further, just to clarify a couple of points please? I take it you use IP cameras, or have knowledge of their use? Is it the case that after I connect the cameras (I have 2 on order), separately to a power source, that I run the software (provided by the company) to view the images via wifi on my laptop. If I wish to view the cameras remotely or via the internet, I have to arrange DynamicDNS as I am yet unaware if this is supported via my Orange Livebox. Is this vaguely correct?
4.
The LiveBox is a Router & Modem combined. The internet bit is more complicated though.
Thanks Pachapapa, I have the internet bit sussed...its the connection and working of a wifi camera that has me stumped at the moment. It would be great if all that happened is that I power up the camera, then find the wifi signal using the software that is available with these cameras, then view the images. Maybe I am just a bit over simplistic and optimistic in my hopes though.[8-)]
5. Pardon my ignorance regarding wifi CCTV, but I would like someone to confirm that I have this correct! I plan to use a CCTV camera to monitor a stable immediately next to the house and use a laptop to view. I would prefer also to be able to monitor via the internet at times, away from home. I have up to 2.5mB ADSL via my Orange LIVEBOX. Is it simply the case with a wifi camera, that I mount one in the stable and connect power to it there. Then using the wifi connection, and associated software, be able to view images from the camera on my laptop within the house, or do I need some type of router between the camera and the LIVEBOX. Any advice/technical expertise/comment appreciated.
6. I am now with them ..no problems and my insurance bill is well down this year. The only hiccup was that it took three weeks for my local garage (as arranged by Amaguiz) to order and fit a kilometre counter for my vehicle.
7. I am in the same boat with my horse trailer and need to go to the prefecture for a WW plate. What documents do I need for this certificate d`immatriculation provisoire? I take it there is no need for any quittus fiscale form as was required when I re-registered my UK car here?
8.
160+50=>170 thus you need a French registered architect. John
Just as I thought, thanks John.
9. Thanks for all of that. I thought that the 170 sqare metre rule applied to the total habitable area. Our house is 160 sq metres and the area under discussion is about 50 square metres. I will take a trip to the Mairie though.
10. Its not so much the filing of the pool (which I will now NOT do following advice on this forum) but for watering the 3 acres of paddocks. We have a fosse septique so sewerage costs are not a factor. Probably in the longer term a suitable well pump will pay for itself.
11. I would be obliged if anyone can enlighten me as to the best way forward in our situation. We have moved here permanently and this is our primary and only residence. Attached to the house via a blocked up doorway is a derelict terrace area with no roof, although the existing joists are still present and there is a concrete base. The walls are tuffaux block and partly falling down. The area is approximately 50 sq metres. I wish to re-instate this to a conservatory/extra living room using most of the existing materials. I presume I require planning permission. Do I need an architect here in France to draw up a plan of what is essentially there at present. I plan to arrange and do most of the work myself as we are on a budget. Any advice?
12. Good advice Theiere, yes I will use the mains supply to fill up the pool. I worked out there is only 36 cubic metres of water, so that is less than 40 Euros.... very little for peace of mind.
13. I am currently renovating the property and wish to make use of the free water within the well in the garden. Probable uses are filing our small swimming pool and watering 3 acres of horse paddock. The well shaft is round and has a one metre diameter. The shaft is exactly 24 metres deep to the water surface and the depth of the water is just over one metre. A neighbour has a same depth of well and I estimate the size of the reservoir to be at least half a km wide. The bottom of the well is silt and sand. Can anyone advise on the type of pump I would require to use from time to time. There is an outdoor electric supply several metres from the well. Any advice or experience would be appreciated. many thanks.
14. I recently registered with CPAM with forms E121 (long term UK incapacity benefit for me) and my wife as beneficiary. Today we received our Attestation with one Social Security number. My first question is.....are we as a couple given ONE Social Security number? or will my wife receive a number in due course (she still has to register with a GP) Secondly, in the "assuré et bénéficiaire(s)" part under my name, it says "100% sauf médicaments vignettes bleues (-35%) and Invalidité 100% du 1/4/2010 au 31/12/2011 sauf vignettes bleues" Would someone be as good as to decipher this part for me. I realise this refers to the spinal injury for which I have UK Incapacity benefit entitlement (although I do not receive anything!). Today we also took out a complimentaire santé assurance so hopefully should not have to pay too much should the worse happen. Thanks in advance.
15. I am looking for a chain harrow for our paddock, but failing transporting one from the UK, I am at a loss to find anywhere in France that sells them. Anyone know where I can buy one?
16. Thanks again for that. Thats all very well if IW France actually respond (which they have not)...I I will send them a letter. Cheers
17. Hi Sunday Driver..thank you for that, however, when aN iFOR Williams horsebox is purchased in the UK, there is no other documentation issued other than an optional registration system such as DATATAG and the users manual. I sent the a copy of the Datatag to DRIRE, but do not have anything else to give them other than the users handbook which covers all Ifor William trailers and gives no details of technical specs etc.. There was nothing issued that is personal to the trailer other these two items, so i am still confused. Do I send them the manual (which does not have the info they would require), or can I download the information off the Ifor Williams website, which as far as i can see is the only source of technical information that would be required. I have emailed Ifor Williams UK and France in any case to see if they can shed any light on what is required. Thanks again.
18. Thanks again Sunday Driver.. We have sent the form to DRIRE and received a reply back that they are looking for a "Notice descriptive de la remorque (demande au constructeur Ifor Williams France). Now this is very confusing, as i thought the whole point of obtaining an appointment with DRIRE was for them to inspect the trailer and to bypass the need for contact and expensive forms from Ifor Williams France.
19. To all the keen gardeners out there....Our newly acquired paddocks are filled with thistles and buttercups which we would want to get rid of quickly. Does anyone know where we can source Grazon 90 (one of the best weedkillers in the UK but I cannot find it here)..or anything similar?
20. Thanks again Sunday Driver, much appreciated.
21. Ok we are here now, with a million and one things still to do....just one more question on this topic......do I need an appointment with DRIRE (St Barthelemy) for our reception de titre isole, or do we just turn up? Where are the opening hours listed (or are they?)..I cannot see anything on the DRIRE website? So many questions...so little time...
22. Thank you Sunday Driver..as usual your advice and knowledge is greatly appreciated. 4 more weeks to go and we will be there, removal van, horsebox and 3 horses in tow!
23. We are bringing over an IFOR WILLIAMS horsebox of a type readily available from Ifor Williams, France. It will be drawn by our vehicle, which will also be re-registered for France.  I have read from the Internet and other ex pat sites that there appears to be an ever changing confusion over Certificate of Conformity availability and prices when registering in France, however this may be more for car trailers as opposed to specific Ifor Williams horsebox models. Does any one have any updated/recent experience of registering an Ifor William HORSEBOX. All relevant help and advice would be appreciated.
24. Where can I find out an updated average price of a hectare of grazing/scrub/"covered in brambles" land in the Vernantes 49390 area without buying the SAFER book at 26Euros?
25. Just received long awaited reply from Europcar. Leave the keys in the box provided, having checked the car for damage etc. Fee is 14 Euros extra. Good surprise!
