1. I would suggest you initially do some research to enable you to understand and get your head around the % claims levels offered by the mutuelles.

All medical procedure costs are state approved 'conventionné tarifs. 100% cover from a mutuelle never means that you are guaranteed to get

back 100% of actual costs. It always means that you get back 100% of the

    state-approved tarif.

As you are already aware many providers charge more than the state-approved tarif,  so mutuelle policies that refund 120%, 150% etc doesn’t mean they

give you back everything you paid plus half again as a bonus. What it does mean is

they will refund up to 150% of the tarif conventionné which hopefully covers the extra fee charged by your provider over and above the 'conventionné' tarif.

I think OH is now ready to upgrade to a proper laptop
As you haven't stated what spec.he would require or the price limit of a laptop I would suggest that during any reasearch you may carry out that you check out some refurbished machines.

  3. On 25th Augst Archant announced that it had reached an

agreement with London-based Rcapital Partners, which will take a 90pc

stake in the business. It is proposed that the restructured Pension Protection Fund will take a 10pc stake in the company.

However, two of Archant’s holding companies, Archant Limited and Archant

Community Media Holdings Limited,  will be placed into administration as

    a result of the move.

Archant Community Media Limited, the group’s trading company and employer of its staff, will not be affected.

The company executive chairman, Simon Bax, said the business “will continue to operate as normal” as a result of the move. Archant will not be renewing their leases on at least 5 regional sites.

Shareholders investments have been completely wiped out

Rcapital were full of the expected media and refinancing  jargon using all the expected terminology - innovation - transformation - Archant will emerge from this challenging period as a stronger business etc.

The forum, of which we are members, is a part of 'Complete France' a term to cover all of Archant's french related magazines, exhibitions and digital services. Complete France, in turn, is a section of 'France Magazines' which is a sub- section of Special Interest magazines which is a sub-section of Archant's magazine portfolio which is a sub-section of Archant Hub which hosts 140 news brands.

As to the forum's stature and relevance within the whole of Archant's enterprises, I would rate us in comparison to that of a dimple, on a pimple, on a flea's left boll.ock.

What does the  future of the forum itself hold?  It seems to have been in a state of demise for a few years now and it would appear to be already 8 bars into its' swansong without any input from Archant's misfortunes. Whether more activity or ad click thr'us, as has been suggested, will be enough to stave off the bailiffs can only remain to be seen.

  4. Hoddy.

For flaunting forum rules and regs, it's understandable the buck should stop with someone. However, in fairness to ALBF, I must hold my hand up to disregarding the rules and regs myself through my reference to visiting an alternative french forum and my comments on a particular group of people there.

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this action of mine may have caused you.

  5. A couple of weeks ago I needed to purchase 2.5lts Sikkens lasure.  In the past I have always bought it from a UK company for approx. €50 + €10 delivery.  Unfortunately they were out of stock at present.

Using Google, it threw up several locations here in France selling the same article/quantity for prices between €89 and €99 plus delivery.

Fortunately it also threw up a shop in Belgium where I was able to purchase it for €67 with 'free' delivery, as it was my first order.

Never forget that Google is your friend.

  6. It must be a regional thing.

    I've

just checked gazoil for today and at LeClerc it is priced at €1.059/ltr

and two Total in the vicinity are priced at €1.253/ltr and €1.248/ltr respectively.

I know which outlets bottom line I'll be contributing to and supporting.
  7. No doubt people's fuel bills will have drastically reduced of late and with the price of oil cascading significantly as well, it would appear the sharks aren't all following suit.

A couple of weeks ago LeClerc was the cheapest for gazoil when I filled up (€1.12/ltr) and today whilst out in mrs c's car, the first trip for seven weeks, we filled up with SP 98 at Carrefour who were the cheapest at €1.16/ltr.

For years now I've used this government site Prix des Carburants en France  It's kept up to date and is simple to use. Just enter the fuel type, your Depertment, then city or postcode and there is a choice of the sort of filling station you want to use if you want to filter that precisely.

It's also possible to research filling stations for a journey, if that ever becomes a reality again.

Why would you want to give away €'s unnecessarily, especially now, when it looks like the economy is about to be going head first down the pan?

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that the forms had to be written or filled in with ink or Biro?
What would you use, considering we're all under the lockdown cosh, and your last pen ran dry?

We quickly realised that this form filling requirement would turn into a 'paper fest' of wastage so mrs.c reduced the size of the form and now prints 2 on an A4 sheet. We have 3 forms, one each for  walking, shopping and medical visits. All 3 have the date and time filled in with a pencil when in use. We have been checked once and it wasn't an issue.

It's been raining here for the last 6 days, and I've been using my umbrella every day.

I didn't get wet even once.

I'm leaving the umbrella at home today, as it obviously isn't necessary.

    I like that analogy.

A shame that the majority, will as usual, suffer through the irresponsible acts and impatience of others.

  10. The WHO (not Townshend or Daltrey) stated back in Februrary..."WE do not recommend the use of face masks for protection against covid-19". Yeah right!

Since February this household has used face masks and face visors on each and every occasion we have ventured out wherever we are likely to be in the vicinity of the general public. Fortunately I already had a good supply which I bought at the end of last year for other purposes and mrs.c, using her one good eye, has made 6 on her machine from a design she found on the internet. They are washable and for extra protection she designed them so as an extra filter ( a snug type pullover cut up into pieces) is insertsed within the mask.

I was watching a programme earlier on France 24, on middle east matters, and to combat counterfeit masks being used by the population Turkey are providing 5 free masks per week for everyone. A text is sent to your cell phone which authorises the collection of the masks from the pharmacy.

I did read somewhere that France, to free up storage space, both burned and exported to China 'ppe' they figured they wouldn't need. No doubt they hoped that one would be kept under wraps.

  11. Ok, I will assume that:

£2185 represents the capital outlay of repayments on the insurance.
This sum should be refunded tax free as capital expenditure by you in servicing the insurance premiums.

    £1869

represents interest you will have incured by the bank incorporating the

insurance repayments rolled up with loan repayments and subject to

    contracted interest charges.
This sum should be refunded tax free as capital expenditure by you in servicing of the interest on the repayments.

    £3533

represents the interest at 8% per annum you would have earned on the

capital outlay you made during the term of the mis-sold insurance.

If for tax purposes you are a UK resident I would make a refund claim for all tax minus the amount payable on the interest element of the settlement.

If, however you are a French resident for tax purposes I would reclaim the whole of the tax element (£760) using HMRC form R43 sections C2.6/7 and 8.

When filing your French tax return I would include £3533 along with any other UK interest you receive under the catagory the Impots decide they are using this year for interest received.

I will add a caveat that I am in no way shape or form an accountant or financial advisor and all of the above should not be seen as advice but as how I would approach this issue if I were to find myself in your situation.

    Good luck with it all.

  12.
I have been lucky to receive a payment in respect of a miss selling of insurance on a car loan. The company have paid the sum of £706 basic tax on the settlement figure. I normally receive interest gross on the little interest I get from my UK accounts. How do I fare with my French tax return? Is there a way of claiming it back, or does it come under double taxation?
If I understand correctly, you purchased a car in the UK by way of a loan from a credit broker. Attached to this loan there was a PPI policy with respect  to its' repayment guarantee. Subsequently under the FCA guidance procedure you filed a claim of 'mis-selling' of the loan protection insurance. This claim was successful and you received a settlement from the insurance company.

What now appears to be clouding the issue is where you state "The company have paid the sum of £706 basic tax on the settlement figure'. As basic tax in the UK is levied at 10% are you implying your settlement was for £7600 and the company withheld £760 tax from that settlement or are you saying the settlement was for £760 which was subjected to a withholding of 10% tax?

Which ever figure the settlement was for it will not be that significant but how you structure your claim will be. I assume you incurred costs in the servicing of the loan in the form of repayments for the insurance. If this is the case those costs will not be classed as income so would need to be deducted from the settlement amount and not declared. The remaining figure should be declared as unearned income to the French tax authorities.

As to the reclaim of the tax deducted in the UK, HMRC form DT-Individual has a section under D for what I would initially classify (payment of interest on a loan) this type of claim if I were to be making a claim. The notes attatched below the form give an explanation.

If they have touched something infected, gloves are just as likely as are hands to carry and pass on the infection.
Very true.
Gloves seem to give people a false sense of security. I saw people wearing them transfer their purchases from supermarket trolley to car boot, return the trolley, open the car door, sit in, close door, and drive away still wearing them.
I am always well stocked with disposable gloves following trips to 'Action' as I use them for no end of tasks.

With the present situation and whenever I am out in the vicinity of joe/josephine public I wear disposable gloves, a face and nose mask and a full face plastic visor. However, what I would find as a beneficial would be a phd. in pure maths, preferably in Combinatorics, to enable me to calculate the different permutations I need to juggle in order to avoid self infection whilst transfering goods from chariots to the car and returning the chariot to the docking bay without coming into contact with anything with my bare hands.

Needless to say I carry several pairs of the gloves in my pockets to replace the pair I carefully remove into an inside out state prior to disposal and replacing with a fresh pair.

What is it they say "God helps those who help themselves?"
