Paulal Posted February 23, 2003 Share Posted February 23, 2003 To update, I have had a very thorough explanation from the Tresor Public on this one now.I have had quoted at me article 1415 of the Code General des Impots, which states that if the property is habitable at 1st January the owner IS liable for taxe d'habitation, whether you live there or not or whether you pay tax in France or any other country.so this is now cleared for me, we do have to paythanks to everyone who responded and I hope this has helped any other confused ownersPaulaL Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If there was any legal way of avoiding paying these (or any) taxes the French would have discovered them long ago and would use them en-masse, and the government would have plugged the loophole within months.
