Hello all,

First post so be very tender & careful with me please!  Sorry if

it has been done and done.  Moved to north charente from south coast

2004 with wife, daughter, son-in-law & grandson, now plus 2 more

granddaughters, both born here in France - all loving every minute.

Have been reading posts for some time but thought it time I joined in.

Wife & I are both on our own E121's having reached state

retirement age in 2005.  The past 2 years we have had a bill for

'Social Charges' based on both our UK pension incomes.  Pensions are

state, company & annuity but all generated in the UK.  Last year we

challenged the Social Charge demand with our local tax office who

simply said 'yes' you must pay it so we did.  Prior to & since then

I'm sure I read on many posts on this subject that Social Charges are

not payable on any pension income if you hold an E121.

I think, with the help of experts, that this is indeed fact so I now

intend to challenge our local tax office again on this matter & try

to obtain 2 years refund (dreamland maybe) so if anybody has done this

or can offer help I would love to hear from you.

Hi FF and welcome to the forum,

I paid the social charges this year simply because I'd put the figures in the wrong box. I haven't challenged it as it wasn't a lot of money. Use the search facility (top right) and you will find an extensive thread on this very subject.

Good luck with it.

Gary.
