Desperately seeking smewhere to rent in Bordeaux area!

Recommended Posts

We live on a small island in the Gironde – Idyllic in the summer, but a bit less fun when the north wind doth blow and the garden doth fill with mud! To cap it all, we are expecting our second baby boy in February. Not only is climbing in and out of boats getting a bit tricky with an ever increasing bump, but we live in terror of trying out the local Bateau des Pompiers by going into labour on the island (no doubt at night, during a storm!)! In short we are desperately seeking a house to rent for 3-4 months over the winter (Dec / Jan to Mar / Apr) on the mainland, in, or near to Bordeaux ( and the maternity hospital!)!

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received - maybe someone knows of a gite in the area that may be available?

Thank You.

Suzi - I was loooking on the holiday-rentals site for something else and it did have a couple of properties near Bordeaux which were available for winter lets. I don't know the Bordeaux area too well so I've no idea how they are placed for the dash to the maternity hospital, but they may be worth looking up on the web.

The references are:

I don't know if that long link will go off the page but the property numbers you need are 7319 and 7268.

There are lots of other houses but they all seemed to be into the vineyards or by the beaches.

Good luck!
How near to bordeaux do you want to be is 50 mins to far?
It is a bit further than we are looking for to be honest. We were hoping to try out a bit of city living as we've been isolated out here in the sticks for so long! (not that i'll really be up for much socialising at that stage!). It's proving pretty difficult as all of the immobiliers we've spoken to work on rental contracts for a standard 3 years - they really can't help us for 3 or 4 months. Anyway, fingers crossed!

And thank you to everyone who's posted so far.

Hi Suzi

When we were looking for a rental property we were advised to try our local paper and look for the private ads. We did and there were lots; I rang about each property that sounded suitable and explained our situation re a short(ish) term let. Some owners weren't interested and said so, some were. It might just be worth a try; especially if the property is empty now and is available straight away as rentals not involving an agent can be arranged very quickly.
