just thought I would post something on this subject here.I was after an oak beam as well in area 22 my neighbour had one that he did not want about 12 inches square by 8 foot long,the cost was 65 euros ! arriving back in england I asked the local woodyard what the cost would be,the reply? 700 pounds (yes seven hundred pounds)

That's a similar price (pro rata) for a beam we are having replaced (at the builder's cost, under guarantee) - the problem being that the old one was weak and sagged a bit. Remember that you may be comparing green oak with seasoned wood, but that shouldn't cause such a price difference.
