Jake, can't help you with a builder in St Lo but it all the years we have been here, no farmer has ever emptied a fosse for us free. I suspect those you hear about that haven't paid, also haven't asked the famer "how much" or have been given a shrug by the farmer, which they have mistaken for "no charge" whereas it means it actually means, "how much do you think it's worth" ! In the very near future, one will need to have their fosse septic tank emptied every 4 years by an "official" specialist vidange company. You will also be required to keep the certificate in case of an inspection by those that will inspect ! The price given to us last month, at the meeting in the local hall about the new rules and regs was 160€ for a single fosse and 150€ for a collectif. I got the impression that the work was needed but not urgent.
