Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) occur in the high northern lattitudes. They are quite rare but spectacular.
They are sometimes seen as far South as UK. Not sure they get down this far.

My friends in Sweden have set up a webcam using a fish eye lens to record the sky.
The  resulting images, over 24 hours have been reduced to a couple of minutes.

See the images here.

Needs ADSL, or an awful lot of patience !

As have I, as a little boy aged around 6, I remember my grandfather taking me outside to see "t'northern lights". That would have been 1958, or so.

My grandparents lived there in retirement, after a lifetime in Wath upon Dearne.

Dont talk to me about the Northern Lights.  I have always wanted to see them.  My husband saw them when we were flying home from Mexico (he may have been lying).

Since a child I have always wanted to visist Iceland and China.  We booked Iceland for my 40th and Hubby decided to break his leg..[:@].  BTW my birthday is in February and it is highly likely these would have been seen from a nice spa somewhere with a glass of champers.[:(]

Street lights in northern coastal towns do NOT count as Northern Lights.

Never mind, Katie - here are some for you.  Best viewed when wearing high heels, a mini skirt and crop-top at -5°C.
