While we were working, listening to the radio, playing chess, paying off our mortgage, driving around in a variety of less than new cars, don't forget us baby boomers were also (without whining) paying off an enormous war debt to the US.

Getting married, I just had enough to pay for the wedding rings as I was still doing a PGCE. After that we went to Libya, Iran and Kuwait. After the second, there was a kiddy so we got a house in Poole. Disliking the mortgage, we went to Kuwait for three years, another hardship post and a bit like self inflicted piles, where I did three jobs, madame did one and we lived off her salary, but the mortgage was paid off in two years and the third year was for savings. But, when we finished, did we spend at Harrod's sale, and were my kids well dressed!

So, to anyone who slams those worthy people having to lose everything by leaving Libya, shame on you. And to those who whinge about not having a job, 'get on yer bikes'.

Snap! [:D] In my case it's always French talk radio, which helps enormously with the language. The books are usually in English though. [:)]

Yes,when in France we listen to French radio, go to concerts, read a lot of  Fr. and Eng. books, see films even theatre in French sometimes and of course we listen to our CDs which we never seem to get time to listen to all the way through when at home in U.K.[:)]
