A french architect managed the project using local insured artisans.He (architect) has since had arguments with the macon and now the macon will not give him a copy of the assurance decennales which we need for the sale.Any advice - can we apply to chamber of commerces or a register of these insurances?HelpLiz Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Val_2 Posted December 18, 2004 Share Posted December 18, 2004 Assurance Deçennale and Civile is a private insurance taken out by artisans to cover their work. There are very few companies in France who sell this cover because it is very specialised and is tailored to cover exactly what the artisan does and is not allowed to do. I speak from experience as my husband has a very very expensive cover as he carries out several trades. The artisan is supposed to show his clients the policy if they so wish and we always keep a copy to show prospective clients on the first visit. You may make a complaint to the Gendarmerie if he refuses to divulge as it is an offence to work without insurance. The chamber de Metiers where your artisan will be registered will not be of help I am afraid, they have no power over this matter.
