I have a sand filter on my water mains and there are now signs of calcium coming thru our water, i've been told that i can put salt in it? can i or shall i change all the sand as the easy option, any help appreciated, if its been covered before, sorry. If it is simply for filtering out any bits of crud in the supply, thenchanging the sand would probably be the way forward, but this would notremove dissolved calcium salts. That would be a job for a watersoftener. If it is a water softener, then this would need the addition of salt(as in sodium chloride) to regenerate the ion exchange resin.
