Gardengirl
Could some kind soul tell us what 'l'offre sous forme d'un avenant au marche' (with acute accent - I don't know how to do that on my computer!)We are trying to arrange for a particular shower to be installed, and this appeared in a very long email from the manufacturers, with messages from the plumber who would be installing it.Many thanks, Jo
Ford Anglia
My Cassell's dictionary only listed "avenant" as an adjective, whereas in your sentence, it appears to be a noun.My sister's large Larousse says "avenant" can be a specialised noun, meaning "codicil" or "rider to a contract", and marche, with the accent, can apparently mean a "sale", so would it translate as:"The offer is in the form of a rider/codicil to the sale"? RogerW
He is saying that the work would be done as an addition to your existing contract rather than as a new job in its own right. You will only have to sign a single sheet specifying the additional cost, and possibly the timescale. All the other conditions, guarantee, etc. will be as in the main contract. This is often used when you are having a house built and decide half way through to change some aspect of the design or the specification. Hope this helps,Roger. Ysatis
Gardengirl, I can't help with translation but here's how to type accents. I printed a copy off and tack'd it beside my computer. On my keyboard, I have to have the 'number lock' on, if not, some don't work, but this may not be the case with yours. My old computer was fine without number lock on.Typing French AccentsTo type French accents, hold down the ALT key, then type the three or four digits listed here. When you release the ALT key, the character will appear. You must type the numbers with the numeric keypad, not with the row of numbers across the top of your keyboard (which means that this is not the best way to type accents on a laptop - try another method for typing French accents).Accent or Special CharacterALT +ALT +a with grave accentà133 À0192a with circumflexâ131Â0194a with trémaä132Ä142a e ligatureæ145Æ146c with cedillaç135Ç128e with acute accenté130É144e with grave accentè138È0200e with circumflexê136Ê0202e with trémaë137Ë0203i with circumflexî140Î0206i with trémaï139Ï0207o with circumflexô147Ô0212o e ligatureœ0156Œ0140u with grave accentù151Ù0217u with circumflexû150Û0219u with trémaü129Ü154French quotation marks«174»175Euro symbol€0128
