It has to be said that it could be very temporary if the Legislatives swing back from the Socialists, but there seem a few improvements in this list, as well as one or two unknowns.

17 women out of 34 Ministers..

We will have to wait a bit to see how it all gels together - to me at least, there are many unknown people, no idea what this will all bring! I notice that J.M. Ayrault as an ex German teacher, is fluent in German. Manuel Vals is fluent in Spanish, Catalan, and Italian. Let's hope that a few others are fluent in English? Showing my own bias, I will be interested to see what Cécile Duflot manages. What happend to Bertrand Delanoe, who was supposed to be Minister of Justice? And what happens to Ségolène Royal - although some of her best mates were picked as ministers (like Aurelie Filipetti?)

You said something elsewhere about Roselyne Bachelot. I have always had a weak spot for her too, she is the one I was sorry to see go. I do hope we will see her again (am also in awe of the amount of weight she has managed to lose, not with "dieting" proper, but just doing sport, eating less, and giving up on the morning viennoiseries.) (sorry, off topic!)[:D])

I've been trying to gen up a bit on who's who so as not to be totally ignorant.

So........they're going to reduce their pay by 30%, from Hollande down, and that's the good news.

However, when I tried to find out a bit about the new foreign minister, Fabius, I get the scandalous gossip that he was an ex-lover of, guess who, no other than one Carla Bruni!

This, to me, sounds positively incestuous [:-))][8-)]

I thought that in France, the personal lives of people in the public arena were off-limits?

No, please don't take me too seriously.  I'm just havin' a bit of a larf, moi........

I very much like the "non cumul des mandats" - it's taken a long time coming!!! It has been really outrageous how some of those politicians were supposed to fill several separate functions, each of which would require an almost 24/7 amount of dedication for the job to be done properly. Now, if you are a minister, you are "just" a minister and have to give up on the other things - however lucrative all those simultaneous posts were. Astonishing that it has finally happened.
