All rail luggage to be labelled

Recommended Posts

Hi
Thought this might interest many:

PASSENGERS aboard high-speed and long-distance trains are now being asked to label their baggage whilst travelling.
The state railway SNCF said that with immediate effect luggage must be clearly labelled with the owners name and address and labels will be available from all 165 mainline stations.
Passengers will also be able to use the larger racks at the end of carriages, which were closed following the attacks in Madrid earlier this year.
The French interior ministry, who took the decision, said if a guard finds an unlabelled bag they would make an announcement, then call the bomb squad to investigate.
Rail services in France have been regularly disrupted following heightened security fears after the Madrid bombings.

Be warned and do not put your home address on the luggage - when I used to commute long haul on a regular basis we were all issued with instructions not to put our home addresses anywhere as they were being noted and houses were being broken into while the owners were away. I gather this is even worse on package tours as normally the whole household goes.

Leaving your luggage at the end of a carrage in luggage racks makes it even easier for someone to be supposedly looking through their luggage while taking down your details from the label.
