Daughter back.  The family drove through Belgium and Northern France during the night.  Snow all the way and sometimes, they didn't see another car on the autoroute for an hour.  They couldn't see the edges of the road.

As soon as they were past Paris, the autoroutes were completely clear.

Well we travelled on the A16 yesterday morning (28th Dec) between Berck and Calais.  The stretch between Le Touquet and Hardelot was horrendous with black ice.  There were accidents, many cars in the ditches on both carriageways.  The Pompiers were shuffling along because it was too slippery to walk.  At one point the carriageway going south was closed because the road was just too dangerous.  Our car was slipping just travelling at 7km.  Very frightening.

We travelled from St Valery sur Somme to Calais that same morning and soon realised that the road was extremely dangerous. There were signs up for black ice, slow down, but still some lunatics were whizzing by as we slowed to 40mph. We saw at least 6 cars that had left the road and more on a trailer at the peage.

The traffic travelling south was solid like the M25. Never seen the A16 like that before. We now know that the road had been closed for a while.

It was a very scary journey.
