I have a pair 0f 7-20 x25 by Praktika which are ideal for carrying around, bird-watching etc. I also have a pair of 15x70 which are so large & heavy that it is almost impossible to hold them steady - I have them on a tripod (for looking at the sky, moon, stars etc.).M Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Postie Posted June 1, 2009 Author Share Posted June 1, 2009 Thanx very much for the replies. We used to have a pair of Vivitar 40 x 7 roof prism (excellent binos) but unfortunately we lost them. They were perfect for bird-watching, light and manageable. This is not a flippant reply but it is all explained in a book called "Choosing, Using and Repairing Binoculars". I bought a copy and an excellent pair of binos on ebay from a chap who specialises in sourcing second hand binoculars. It would be worth your while dropping him an e-mail. A pair of Bushnell Natureview 8x42 in the - US $109 at Amazon UK - £176 & at Amazon FR - 199E. What is this, RIP OFF EUROPE? Danny Posted June 1, 2009 Share Posted June 1, 2009 Personally, I like the Opticron binos ( I havethe 8 x 42) and also the Swift ones. Definitely a case of "you get what you pay for". These may be too expensive for you.But, it is the kind of thing that if you spend enough and look after them, they may well outlast you.I would recommend going to a shop and trying them out as opposed to buying on line as you might be surprised what fits around your eyes and what doesn't. I had a good look at some very expensive binos and while the quality was obvious, I couldn't get them anywhere near my eyes! Maybe I've just got a weird face.
