AnOther
Just had the privilege of observing a 1m+ Western Whip Snake at close quarters. It was making it's way along the edge of the concrete slab which my pool sits on and the other side of the rush mat screen. I watched it advance about 3m until it became aware of me, now virtually directly above it, when it backed up and hissed before disappearing into the scrub at an incredible pace.Good job it wasn't 'er indoors who saw it ! baypond
They are amazing. They seem to be far more agressive than normal grass snakes (though still not in the least dangerous). I was fortunate enough to see two fighting by a water pool once.
Nell
We used to get them looking in the glass door of the kitchen to see what I was cooking for tea !!!!!I was not impressed, so told my old man if he didn't get rid of them he was going to get pretty hungry [:D]

Jonzjob
Not quite a wiston whep snaque, but can anyone tell me what left this behind? We have seen it a few times in the garden and haven't had chance to get a good enough look or to photograph it. I know, I know, very remiss of me, but?? The tile is 16 inches long.Once again, not quite a wipsnade (?) but this little perisher just sat there and let me put my camera within 3 inches of his 3 times to get this. Obviously a star in the making?Such beautiful little aminals![:$]

chris pp
Wonderful, a snake skin photo.[blink]How far am I supposed to stick my neck out on this one?Juvenile Montpelier snake from the photos, do you have any better ones of the skin about a third of the way back from the head?Chris
Jonzjob
How far for the neck Chris? About 5 feet! This is about 1/3rd way back but it looks very similar to the rest Chris? If you would like the full file size I can sent it to you for your files?I'm thinking of seeing if I can sell it to someone who wants a snake skin handbag, all be it a very small one?Really, I'm trying to come up with some way that I can preserve it because it is so lovely and so very strong but delicate. What a contradiction!
chris pp
Ta mate, I'll stick with the Montpelier and hope to goodness I'm right.[8-|]Snake skins as you say are both strong and fragile, hanging it up somewhere works for me and it is a nice one, very often they are torn and in pieces.
