Is anyone old enough to remember this?

I'm enjoying the dvd; the landscape, weather and accents are very different but le pays is otherwise much the same.

I was a child at the time, but I do remember the incident and the continued furore which followed. If I recall correctly the British press adopted an air of superiority about French police methods (possibly justified) and the existence of a peasant culture.

Thank you.

The "film" implied that Scotland Yard found the "peasant killing" story, implausible as it was, perfectly satisfactory and preferable to an investigation of the other possibilities.

A lot of background information seemed to come from the English press, The Sunday Times was mentioned many many times.
