Ground Mixed Spice

You could try and find a Comptoir Irlandaise, or get a friend to send some.

What would the french use this in, I have never tasted anything that is spiced with this mix here. No wonder that they don't sell it, is it.

And you could do the following. Instead of using mixed spice, put thick layers of lemon curd on the bread instead. If you can't buy that it is really easy to make. And Lemon Curd Bread and Butter Pudding, especially eaten hot, is a delice. Has anyone seen this recipe, I sort of think I have made it up.....it is very good though.

Incidentally I always put dried fruit in a bread and butter pudding, but not in my lemon one.

On the Internet, there is a site that gives the following information regarding mixed spice. But can't comment on the results. http://www.foodsubs.com/SpicemixEur.html#mixed%20spice

British mixed spice = pudding spice
To make your own: Grind together 1 small cinnamon stick and 1 tablespoon each cloves, mace, ground nutmeg, coriander seeds, and allspice berries Substitutes: pumpkin pie spice OR allspice
