Skimmed milk

skimmed milk = lait écrémé

semi-skimmed = demi écrémé / semi écrémé

Try the fresh milk display in the supermarket, usually next to the cheese and butter.

This afternoon, I bought some whole milk (fresh, unpasturised) to make cottage cheese with. There was a choice a fresh pasturised milk on the shelves, both skimmed and semi-skimmed.

Round here (the Cantal) I've never seen fresh skimmed milk in any supermarket - and I've certainly looked. Not even once. Maybe large towns only?

Plenty of fresh full-cream and fresh semi-skimmed, but if it's skimmed you want it's only available as UHT. Fortunately UHT skimmed milk doesn't have quite the same noxious taste as semi-skimmed or full-cream UHT. Or maybe I've just got used to it.
