Any walnut experts out there?

Hello everyone,

A friend gave me a bag of walnut kernels that he bought on a trip to France. They were called "Cerneaux extra du Quercy" and are truly the best tasting walnuts I have ever had. I'm trying to determine if they are Franquette Corne Grandjean Marbot or some other variety but I can't find very much info on the net. Would anyone have any ideas please?

I would also greatly appreciate if anyone can recommend a good online shop where I can purchase kernels of extra quality from France.

Thanks in advance for your attention.

This is a difficult question to answer when you do not have the shells. From Quercy they are most likely to be Franquettes or Grandjeans because I think they are the varieties most commonly grown there. Franquettes are bigger than Grandjeans and in my opinion less tasty. I realise that this isn't much help, but at least it will give you a start.
The OP wanted to be able to buy online, Ventodue. The site you recommend doesn't seem to allow that. As for the best nuts being from Grenoble ........... Hoddy
Hmmm .. you're too easily deterred, if you don't mind me saying [:)]

Look under Producteurs-expéditeur (ignore the 'volumes commercialisés en AOC supérieurs à 1 tonne' nonsense).   And then, for example, go http://www.produits-de-la-ferme.com/la_boutique.php. I'll even reproduce their order form for you ...

Or  try e-mailing any one of the other suppliers ...

Hi, unfortunately they don't sell Grandjean.

Sur notre Ferme de Goudounet, nous avons tout d'abord commencé à développer les variétés typiques que nous cultivons encore aujourd'hui "Franquette" et, "Marbot".

I found a farm for Grandjean at the link below
