The nearest French equivalent is the Acte Authentique de Vente. The notaire handling the sale will indeed keep a copy. For most purposes the attestation which you have is ample evidence of ownership.

If you need evidence of residence, then an avis d'imposition is probably best, alternatively a titre de sejour (which most Europeans don't bother with any longer, but although not compulsory is still useful).

Was wondering this too - we have been forwarded the Acte Authentique de Vente but didn't realise this was actually the house deeds - very disappointing compared to what we get in UK, as I thought we may have got some history of our property. So still don't know who past owners of the house were or what date our house was actually built?
