Hoddy
On the subject of finding and finishing books, I'm struggling with Novel on Yellow Paper by Stevie Smith. I don't usually give up on books but I'm finding this very difficult. Has anyone else tried it ?Hoddy
Russethouse
No, thats one I haven't tried, whats it about ? I have just read Victoria Hislops 'The Return' Its subject is the Spanush civil war which I'm afraid to admit I knew nothing about !
Hoddy
I've no idea what it's about because I haven't got that far. I heard it highly recommended on a radio programme and thought I might give it a go.Hoddy

Frecossais
I thought I remembered reading a thread on this book, which I've only just now begun to read. Like Norman, I felt the arrogance of the assumption that the main characters were in some way better than everyone else, but at least the book is making me think. I haven't finished it yet, so can't say much more than this.
Frecossais
I finished the book, and I really enjoyed it, even the pretentiousness of the writing. It still told a good story, and in a way a story that to me, confounds the holier-than-thou attitudes of the central characters. Maybe I didn't get the point?
