Postie Posted October 5, 2008 Share Posted October 5, 2008 I am making my staicase, balustrade, doors, doorframes & skirting from local timber. We bought 2nd grade kiln dries oak from a sawmill in the Mervent at 730 Euros for 0,75m3, I thought this was a reasonable deal. The planks are on average 2800x700x70 and I have now resawn some planks to about 30mm & some to under 20mm. Here are some pics of half the timber (had to make 2 trips to the sawmill as the trailer wasn't up to carrying the whole lot in one go). I personally go for what could be called 'character' Oak wherever possible, I find the flaws and faults to be far more interesting than the top grade stuff which seems sort of sterile. Good luck!
