The trouble with just looking at a list of clubs is that you do not know what they are like - are they a "family" club or "professional" - do they have one man and his dog to watch or hundreds - do they welcome visitors to the club house - in short, what level and culture is the particular club you want to go to - you may only want to spectate, but you may want to become part of the club  (nthing better in my view).

It would be ueseful if a personal experiences of clubs could be posted

Most rugby is played at your local Stade which is in fact constructed and owned by the local council. There are a few exceptions but that is mainly with the big cities. If you look through the list I gave the URL for you will quickly see that this is the case. France is far more 'sportive' than the UK in as much as nearly all towns have a Stade which are used for all outdoor sports. So basically go along to your local Stade and have a look. Some have bars and others don't. Most rugby clubs are associated with a local bar where one retires after the game for a few beers with players form both sides. Normally the players have a sit down meal after at the bar. Our team prefers to have a few beers prior to the game hence we are now in Federal League 2.
