I have to admit that this is a long shot but here goes.. My daughter has applied to British universities and has conditional acceptances> our problem is that one uni (her first choice) is requesting a note of 10 in her maths Brevet. she did achieve this in 2011 but unfortunately she has misplaced the releves de notes for her brevet and cannot prove it. She is on course to achieve higher Bacc result than the entrance requirement but the sticking point is this Maths note. Can anyone advise me as to what action I can take. Her lycee prof has emailed them but still no joy. A photocopy is not possible, so, any constructive ideas would be welcome.

Polly I have 3 daughters  the eldest will be 13 this year. She had concerns like you. The french system is different to the english and staying back a year will help you immensely. It will give you a year to master the system, make friends and learn the language. My daughters still have private tuition from a french tutor although they are now fluent but their written french needs some work. They love their life here it's not perfect but nowhere is. Look on it as an adventure.

Hello Unfortunately I don't have a magic wand. There are lots of questions to ask yourself. Is she academic?Into drama? A loner? Has lots of friends?   I have 3 girls my eldest was 10 when we moved over.We had her parents/prof night on Tuesday. She was a high achiever in UK. On Tuesday the profs said she is a great student and works hard and will get there! But is average over here. She loved drama and reading  in England( we spend a fortune with Amazon on books ) Her English  prof (who taught in England for 15 years) is excited to have her and gives her creative writing excercises and book reviews. It looks like she is a lover of the English and always will be.Despite this she prefers to be in France. It has not been easy and my point is there is no formula to say who will succeed and who won't. We are all different Good Luck

Hello Fi I live about 20 mins from Montguyon on the Dordogne/Charete border. I have been here for 2 years and have 3 daughters 12,10,8. I can't speak for Montguyon but from my experience you have to come here prepared to travel that bit further to entertain your children. I travel the 20 mins to Montguyon for riding with my girls every week and it' s no problem. The distance is probably 15km but the drive is pleasant and when I lived in England it could take an hour to cross my town for a swimming lesson. My girls have settled in well, they miss somethings from UK but not many Your children are young enough to adapt it is you who needs to be certain that you can cope with a new culture and not working full-time. I do have days when I question did we do the right thing but they are getting fewer and fewer and when I see the freedom that my kids have I'm glad we did it. In short not an east transition with kids but stick with it and it's worth it. Ros PS my kids love school!
