letrangere
Have just come across a charming line in a Rumer Godden novel, 'French people don't have gardens, they grow flowers'. Do they, don't they? M

Gardening as in making gardens is coming in but was until recently the preserve of the very rich around here - ie chateaux owners.
Skrumpy
Our neighbour has just won, for the second year running, the prize for the best garden in the Canton; it is an absolute mass of flowers and colour with perfectly manicured lawns and hedges. He is a retired dairy farmer and spends most of the hours of daylight doing something or other with his garden - it realy is a sight to behold. Likewise, his vegetable plots are immaculate. I wouldn't mind betting he even wipes the chickens feet before allowing them to tread his hallowed turf. He is definately a "gardener"......and a lovely man who makes delicious cidre to boot! (hic!)
