Paul Bradford
Hi,Does anyone out there know if it is possible to buy a post driver or rammer in France, specifically around Villeneuve-sur-Lot or Bergerac? I've searched ebay France and Castorama but have had no luck so far. I have over a hundred fence posts to put in (just to start!) and !'m not sure that my accuracy with a sledgehammer, if I have any, will not begin to flag after two or three posts!RegardsPaul
Bugsy
Paul, with that number of posts to do I'd ask a local farmer to help you. A tractor-driven hammer and hole borer will do it without you having to visit the doctor with a bad back...[:)]
Wozza
Try the local farmers retailer or tractor agency - they will typically sell that sort of thing (even if you want the hand held rammer as opposed to a tractor powered one), but I think the advice above is excellent.I did put about 50 2 metre posts in last summer in a day - I used an old tractor axle sharpened to a point to make a bore hole about 450mm deep then whacked the post in - the bore hole is essential if you want to reduce post splitting. Would recommend you get chestnut posts too - a little more expensive, but better than the pine rubbish I bought.
cooperlola
Do you have a "Gamme Verte" or a "Pole Vert" near you? They sell 'em.
