Which trees to plant

I am looking to plant 4 acres of new trees. I am looking for advice on the best type of tree to plant.

The trees will be grown for the purpose of harvesting the wood will be dried and then turned in to wood chips for my bio boiler.

I have a large forest as is which needs thinning out I estimate that I can use my own trees for five years without an adverse affect on my forest.

So replanting is a must, I want quick growing trees that are low maintenance.

I have been advised that acacia is a good bet any other suggestions?

Hi,

I gather you are close to me in the Indre et Loir.

Acacia (Robinia pseudoacacia) could be a good solution for you. It grows well here, is very fast and the wood is dry, allowing it to be burnt without seasoning. Oak is one of the best woods for burning but rather slow, while Eucalyptus is another rapid grower and has good scent on the fire. Many moons ago I helped a client in Wales start Eucalyptus plantations for the wood burning stoves of the cottages on his property.

Best regards,

Colin
