Can you believe this?!?!?!

I took a booking for 4th to 7th June (D-Day weekend) from a family of Parisians in February. Tonight I have had an email from them asking for a reduction because they are staying three nights or otherwise they would all like to sleep in the same room (parents, 7 year old kid and grand-parents). Fortunately they've already paid (and I've cashed) a 100 deposit. But it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I have gone back and said "no way jose" I think I have turned away about 30+ requests since they booked both my rooms and fortunately I still have all the email addresses on my computer. Thank goodness I've had 100 off them. I could end up MAKING money out of the situation if they decide to cancel.

Has anyone heard of this kind of thing before; people booking, then trying to get a discount closer to the time?

Good on you girl and stick to your guns.
I think this is dreadful behaviour, if they wanted any sort of reduction they should have asked at the outset and personally I would have still said "NON" especially at such a prime time in the season.

I think at this point I would do a Basil Fawlty on them. There must be 1000's of people who would like a last minute chance to find accommodation for D-Day.

We will be in our house for D-Day and and are putting up veterans free of charge but I receive on an almost daily basis requests to rent the house. The worst one was fropm a medical officer for a presitous British Regiment who will be escorting a group of frail vets, the vets are all booked into a hotel and he was also offered a room there. However his wife who wanted to join him did not realish the prospects or a 2* hotel, she also wanted to bring the children and their nanny. As they would only be staying 6 nights instead of 7 he wanted a reduction.... on your bike Mate.

An update on the Parisians.

I wrote and asked for the full amount to be paid up front two weeks before arrival (just in case!)which they did.

They arrived last night and I would just like to say that it is obviously the cultural difference. - I think it's just in the French nature to try it on, after all, If you don't ask you don't get. They are one of the most delightful families we've had staying here - and so PERFECTLY mannered it's untrue!!! We had a lovely meal (the company I mean, not singing my own praises) last night and this morning they were Sooo appreciative of everything we did for them.

Now I feel guilty for doubting them in the first place!!! Wish some of our Brit guests could learn some of their manners!
