At the moment there are 17 B&B's and 144 gites registered on www.france-rental.com , the Archant advertising site for B&B and gite owners. 

The price of advertising is £60 + VAT for 1 year (Off Peak Offer - Usual Price £85).

I wonder, is this enormous disparity in numbers of B&B's and gites because:

1. The relative proportion of owners using Complete France is massively skewed towards gite owners (though the number of threads/posts in the Gite vs. B&B forums sections is not so skewed)

2. Individual gite owners tend to advertise on more paying sites than do individual B&B owners (I suspect this is true though I have no proof)

3. The price of advertising on france-rental.com is okay for some gite owners but too high for most B&B owners (many B&B bookings but perhaps only one or two gite bookings required to justify the same amount of advertising expenditure)

4. Other reasons?

I think you are right with no. 3, a few odd nights booked from a paying advertisment is not like having a week booked in a gite.  The site also does not come up well when I search for bbs in our area,

Advertising bbs is a whole different ball game wouldn't you say ?

Just looked at the site and it has FREE advertising for new advertisers for rest of 2008!

Re the free advertising

 

It asks you to register an interest and they'll get back to you. I did they haven't yet.
