I doubt that anyone hear is using facebook in this way, but according to the BBC, 80% of facebook advertising clicks appear to emanate from bots or other fake accounts. A few years ago, similar things seemed to be going on with Google pay-per-click: one of my friends was trying to use google ads and discovered that his pay-per-click advertising payment limit was being exhausted in a few hours by clicks that came from competitor domains and bots.
