You may recieve a form from the 'Guide Européen de la cité' asking you to confirn your name and address for inclusion in this city guide. It has a blue European flag logo and blue border and looks very convincing and also gives that impression inclusion in this guide is free. Don't be taken in, it is a SCAM. If you sign and return this form you have signed a contract for three entries into the guide and one free copy and you will later be invoiced for £1500, This company was fined and banned from trading in Barcelona some time ago but have simply moved to Valencia and restarted the scam.

I have had an invoice from about 250€ from Pagesnet.fr, presumeably for a web listing. Obviously I did not order any entry. My Accountant says that this is illegal (using invoices for marketing).

I guess there are as many of these scams here as there are in the UK. I wonder what proportion get paid?

Thanks for the warning. We are currently receiving by fax, two or three times per week which is costing us money in printing ink,faxes from a company called Optima who say if we ring a number on the fax we can be told whose businesses are going into liquidation locally and who is in financial trouble - who wants to know that?, jobs being advertised but the wages are really low which made us suspicious and lots of other "info" which you pay for by ringing these ridiculously expensive numbers. I tried several times to return the fax on the same number with stop pestering us written on it,but the number is always unobtainable. Our recycling bag is getting bigger and bigger with waste paper!

if you install fax reception on your PC, then you only need to print out what you want and you can even block this number.

Thanks Andy but I'm not computer literate so will get the children to sort that out for me as I wouldn't know where to start.

me neither.  Depending on what software you already have you may need to buy a package.
