Above ground pool with a split liner

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My parents above ground pool (4 years old) has developed about an inch split quite near to the bottom *typical* and then a much smaller one nearer the skimmer basket. The liner has also bagged quite a bit.

Is it worth trying to repair it ?? If so does it need emptying or can you use this underwater glue I've heard about or what ??

Is it better to take the tops off and try and refit the liner so it's not baggy or just replace the liner ??

thanks in advance

Pippa

You're likely to get wrinkles if you do this but that's not too bad.  When a new liner is fitted there is a vaccum cleaner connected to extract all the air as the pool fills with water. So yes, you can probably repair it with patches/glue but you may and up with a wrinkled bottom!!

The underwater glue is great for patching holes against leaks but it

has no strength. If there is any push and pull to the liner which will

certainly happen if it is sagging then your patch will not last long. A

more permanent fix is to heat weld a patch which quite obviously may

only be done once the pool is empty. As you have a number of problems I

would suggest that this is the best course of action and then to rehang

your liner, taking care to get a good vacuum behind it and a good fit

without wrinkles. For if there are any wrinkles then these will surely

split and cause leaks due to the weight of water on top.

PM me if you need further help

Andrew
