Following a call to newcastle we are more confused than ever.
My father in law is 62 and suffers from heart failure.(LVF).
He recieves incapacity benefit which will go with us when we move to france because this is a contribution based benefit.
He does take alot of medication which is free of charge, does anyone know if the free prescriptions will continue.

kind regards kirsten

Hello Kirsten,

I may be a bit late in giving you this advice but here goes. Although your father-in-law is below state retirement age he can still obtain E121 from Newcastle if he is in receipt of Long TYerm Incapacity Benefit. With that and proof of residence in France he can affiliate into the French health system. This will usually cover medication up to 35% or 65% of the costs (depending on the colour of the label! However in certain cases 100% cover is possible and your father-in-law may well be judged to have one of the conditions that will qualify him. He will need to see a doctor in France and if sufficiently serious he will register his case with CPAM for 100% cover. If granted it will only be for this condition and treatment for any other condition will attract a contribution either direct or via a "top up" insurance.

Regards
