My husband has type 2 diabetes, controlled by diet and tablets. He has medical checks at the doctor's surgery and blood tests plus annual eye examinations with results for this sent to the doctor. His blood pressure and cholesteral levels and regularly checked.I guess the treatment is similar in France but he would like some reassurance in advance of our imminent move!Bernice Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He sent off blood tests and had me checked out by the local heart specialist. All OK. I continue to have regular blood tests HBA1C, chlolesterol etc. Doc registed me with CPAM as ALD so I get all my diabetes related stuff refunded in full. He writes the prescription, I pay him €20 for the consultation and CPAM refund the €20 less the €1 the government now claws back each time. Went for an eye test-results to doctor - as you say. Got that refunded too.Its not really much different once you get past the form filling for joining CPAM and nominating which doctor you will use.If I can answer anything more specific let me know.Graham Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dick Smith Posted October 11, 2005 Share Posted October 11, 2005 I don't know the answer to your question in an y detail, Bernice, but a friend of mine (also Type II) went to France recently and left his Metformin in England - and he was able to buy some over the counter, very cheaply, in the local pharmacy. I wish I'd known that when I did the same thing!Whether or not it is possible to get full redemption of prescription charges, as in the UK, I don't know. james419 Posted October 11, 2005 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Hi Bernice,Dont worry about the level of care over here - I am also type 2 and have a lovely doctor who I can see when I want and dont have to wait for a receptionist to decide when I can see either my doctor or one of her choosing.Needed to see a pediatrist - in the UK i was on a waiting list of 2 years! as a diabetic here I hadto wait a week (he was on holiday!) The pharmacy is great and getthe insulin within 12-24 hours - although I always keep some spare in case!I was lucky in the UK as I used to see my GP in my local and she short circuted the appointment system how ever blood took at least 2 weeks to get through and then you had to book an appontment - here I get a copy and the Doc gets a copy- simple and sweet.
