E106 Expired / Carte Vitale

Hi, hope someone can help ..? Some friends of mine had an E106 form, registered and then received their Carte Vitale. However, the E106 form expired in December, they haven't heard anything and still have their C/Vitale.  They are currently living off their own money whilst renovating gites .. once the gites are up and running they'll be registering as a business and therefore paying cotisations etc .. they don't want to have to start paying out until they are earning, unless they have to.  Has anyone else been in this situation and/or does anyone know what happens next .... ?

Thanks in advance

Steph

If their E106s have expired and they haven't re-registered and started paying their own contributions, then they no longer have CMU cover and will be 100% liable for any future healthcare costs.  Their carte vitals are now just pieces of plastic.

You say they don't want to have to start paying out until they are earning, or unless they have to.  That's their choice - no healthcare cover unless they pay.

They may or may not have had a letter from Newcastle telling them their E 106 cover has expired, Newcastle told me expiry letters are only issued on demand now, other have received them automatically still[8-)], but without the letter from Newcastle your friends can do nothing and will fall into the situation Sunday Driver explains. Although as they have a Carte Vitale they will almost certainly get a letter from CPAM asking them why they have not registered for CMU.

In order to register for any form of CMU they will have to produce a tax form for 2004 or an attestation of income for 2005.  If their E 106 has been valid for two years and they have not declared any income in France so far, they will have explain to CPAM and Les Impots why not. If they have money to do up gites, they must have some money sitting somewhere earning interest and that should have been declared.  Could be a very interesting and costly period in your friend's lives on the horizon
