virus or hoax??

Hi,

I have a pc problem that maybe someone here can help us with.

Occasionally we get a pop up notice from our AVG anti-virus, telling us that we have a virus & to run avg virus scan to get rid of it.
However when we run the scan it finds nothing. This is a little annoying, but other than that there seem to be no other effects.

It says the virus is a trojan downloader agent, but none of our scans have found it. Could it be a hoax or should we look at getting different software to eradicate this?

I had the same one as did others, look at the post AVG users help please - I switched off reset and switched it back on and the trojan horse had gone.
